Here’s one of my favourite things I’ve made, it was the last assignment for my photoshop course and it just cracks me up despite also being super proud of the job I did. I had to combine all the things thought in the course like masking, image comping and vector graphics so we were given a magazine cover as a brief to show off all these areas of skill. I went with the aesthetic of one of those manky monthly Irish magazines you see in garages, forever unsold, until my grandad walks in.
The picture I actually took myself, probably with my grandad thinking about it now, near Ballybunion, a town in Kerry the family used to holiday in yearly. I started skimming all my old photos since they were pretty high quality assets and this one stuck out to me. The manky dull weather really drove home the Irish magazine vibe and the state of the castle just had me thinking “Something HAS to come bursting outta this”.
Amygdala was my first choice for subject to comp in because I adore bloodborne and the Amygdala have just, the coolest design. The asset I used for Amy was a photograph of a mega high quality statue that I fell in love with while working on this. Unfortunately it was like, 600 quid or something wild and I’m really bad for actually putting up ornaments and the like anyway with how cluttered my room space gets.
I like the bit humour I needed for the blurb, it invokes Amy with a big ol sun hat and summer dress which is kinda funny, if I ever learnt to draw I’d love to give that a whack. Also proud of how readable the text is, it’s always something I struggled with, especially if you look at the old themes I used to use on this page, bloody black text on a purple backdrop or something as gross and migraine inducing
