Ok I’m going to do a small rant about how much I love this cat and the journey I’ve had with her for this past week and how much it has changed my perspective on animals.
This beautiful cat’s name is zadie and I’ve been catsitting her for the past week. Zadie is sort of known to be a sort of mean cat who doesn’t let you pet her and hisses every time you get too close and at first I was a little scared by her and just thought “wow I’ve never met such a stand-offish cat before”. However, as the week has gone on Zadie has taught me how to treat her and is literally such a role model for all women out there😪 she wouldn’t just let any peasant touch her and she created distance. She taught me that I truly need her consent to be affectionate. As the week went on and I showed her respect and distance she started to be more and more affectionate—she would sleep on the bed, sit close to me on the couch and occasionally mark my legs with her head. However, we still didn’t get to petting which I had completely become okay with at that point.
Today, however, I was really sad and was just sitting on the couch visibly sad and this beautiful Zadie came up to me and started rubbing her head on my arm and then rested her head on my lap and just allowed me to pet her for like 30 minutes. It was so beautiful. This gorgeous, amazing cat noticed how I was feeling and decided that this was the time that I was allowed to pet her and when I felt better she walked away.
I think up to this point I’ve always sort of unintentionally looked at my own cats as toys a bit. I would hug them and pick them up whenever I wanted and didn’t really respect their space. This cat taught me to really treat animals with the same respect I would give any human and then they will respond in that way as well. It was so amazing. Thank you so much Zadie for being the most inspiring cat ever. I love you so much❤️❤️❤️
One day I really want to hop in a car and go on a road trip without any destination in mind.
