Gift Collections: Warm Summer Weather
We know the thousands of socks and accessories on our site can get overwhelming, that’s why we’re going to be spending some Sock Journal time looking at our Gift Collections. These are Dreamer-curated collections of socks at your fingertips, perfect for when you’re searching for a gift (for yourself or somebody else).
Okay, we'll admit it. Sometimes it is too hot to wear socks. Or, at least, to wear much socks. So we've gathered warm weather styles that are our go-tos when it's just too sweaty for socks. Thigh bands, cool wicking fibers, liners to protect your shoes from sweaty feet, just the thing to show the heat who's boss!
This is probably our smallest gift collection (and therefore our smallest post about them), because we did want to keep it limited to the things we rely on when Portland throws its suddenly aggressive 100-degree days at us.
Okay, before we even delve into the sockier styles, we have to make sure you know about Bandelettes. Simple little sleeves that slide onto your thighs, staying in place with strips of silicone, thigh bands offer the prettiest protection against the dreaded foe of summer: chafing.

They look perfect paired with shorts and are a great under-skirt layer when even the thought of bike shorts make you sweaty. Available in six sizes, the largest size fits thighs up to 32 inches. And if lace isn’t your thing, there is a plain black version in a sleek sporty fabric.
They’re probably the least sock-related thing we carry but we’re so glad to offer Bandelettes, because these terrific thigh bands have changed our summer style.
Our hot tip for hot weather is: look to the sporty socks. Designed to “wick” (read: let your foot sweat air out), socks designed with sports in mind are great summer styles. Yes, even if they’re wool.
See, wool insulates. And, like the rad padded lunchbox you had as a kid, you can use insulation to keep things warm or cool. My personal favourite are the Trainer Running Anklets from Dahlgren, with their dual-tab at the ankle, protecting me from the wrath of my sneakers.

Goodhew is great (Greathew?) too, with two foot sizes of their Inspire Micro Anklet. Mixing merino wool and bamboo rayon, they’re nicely padded on the bottom but have ventilation on top. Combined with the wonders of wicking and wool, you won’t be walking around in small, very warm, swimming pools for shoes.

And if wool just weirds you out, then go for the Bamboo No-Show 3 Pack. Not only do you get three pairs of socks in a go, but they’re really nicely ventilated on top and are made with that lovely, lightweight, bamboo rayon and are available in two colours and two sizes.
Anklets, No Shows, Footies?
If you’re looking for sneaker socks or the sockless look, guessing the right terms is confusing for everybody (including us!). We try to stay true to what a brand calls their socks, so sometimes something is called an “no show” but covers enough skin to be a footie (looking at you, Foot Traffic and Stance).
But when the thermometer is getting threateningly high and you just want something sock-like between you and your shoes, look to our No-Shows & Liners category. This is breaking out of our Gift Collection Sock Journal Post mould, but it’s summer and sweat is serious business. These Lo Liner No Shows are a perfect example of a light, barely-there sock that will carry you through the warm weather.
There are few styles that truly skim low enough to be called no-shows, but if they show the top of your foot you’ll find them in this section. Like the seasons, what styles we have cycle, but we do always have the ultimate sock/no sock compromise: the half sock.

Offering protection only to the front half of your foot, half socks pair perfectly with slides and slip-ons. The Bamboo Half Socks are particularly nice, with smooth, sleek and seamless comfort and three different colours. Unlike the Unisex Cotton Half Socks however, they do not come in a multi-pack.
Listen, the idea of socks in the summer is a little much, some days. But if you are sticking with shoes instead of sandals, do your toes a favour and put something between your skin and your shoes to keep things a little cleaner and more comfortable.
