Our Dreamers have been making magic happen behind the scenes to restock our warmest Alaskan Merino Wool socks. We had more merino wool yarn spun up in our four staple colorways (baby pink, cinder, gold and purple) and, due to different color ratio used in the new yarn, the colors look a bit different than before.

Baby Pink is now givinggg. Originally, the first iteration of this yarn blended light pink and tan together with subtle hints of sweet cream. The new yarn now shows a chunky mix of light pink, taupe and sweet cream, the end product has an almost marled texture.
Then we have Cinder, which has been a topic of debate at the Sock Dreams HQ. Did it change, or has it stayed the same? We invite you to weigh in with your thoughts, however the new batch has been confirmed to use the new, reknit cinder yarn.
Gold has been transformed with this new yarn. The previous gold yarn iteration was practically luminous; gold and tan blended together with those subtle hints of sweet cream dappled throughout. >> cue magical girl transformation << The blend of colors in the new yarn is full of texture and color; sprinkles of tawny brown, gold and sweet cream knit to perfection.
When we first saw the new Purple yarn, the cold winter light altered the sock color, morphing the purple into what we thought was cinder. The previous purple yarn iteration was unapologetically purple, tinged with tan and sweet cream speckled throughout. The new yarn produces a more marled product, now showcasing the purple and sweet cream in bright contrast.
TLDR; Moving forward, all colors of Alaskan Merino Wool socks have a marled visual texture with greater color constrast. The new Alaskans are being added to our website as we receive them. You've probably heard of "fast fashion," and the many environmental and humanitarian problems with clothing that is cheaply made and quickly discarded. The "slow fashion" movement was born out of efforts to push back, with clothing that is thoughtfully designed and constructed, so that it lasts for years.
Long before "slow fashion" was on anybody's radar, Sock Dreams was focused on creating styles that are both durable and stylistically enduring. We often hear from customers about how they've gotten years of wear out of our socks, and sometimes even over a decade!
Not only are our Sock Dreams brand products made to last, but we've been making many of the same styles for years, so when your socks finally do wear out, you can often find another pair of the same thing. Some styles, like our M Stripes and Ribbed M Stockings, have been fan favorites for over 20 years!
Yesterday we talked about how all of our house brand styles are manufactured in the USA at small mills. This is important to us because it cuts down on the environmental impact of shipping our socks long distances. It also means that we know about the labor laws and conditions in which they were produced.

We are a tight knit crew of fifteen people based out of Portland, Oregon, who run this business as a collaborative effort. We also believe in domestic manufacturing, so while we do carry socks from other suppliers, every product under our own Sock Dreams brand is made in the USA. We also keep our labor in-house, which means we don't outsource our customer service to call centers or AI, or practice drop shipping, or hire a content farm to manage our social media. These tasks are all performed by genuine humans, because we know how to do it right!
With ever-increasing competition from giant corporations, we're well aware that the only reason we're still here is because of the ongoing support of our customers. We have now arrived at the final day of our 25th birthday celebration sale! Today we’re looking ahead to the future of Sock Dreams, and are excited to share some of our vision with you!
First of all, we’re going to be vending at Rose City Comic Con during the first weekend of September, and we’re looking forward to seeing some of your faces in person! We always have such a great time meeting old and new customers, and talking socks and comics with you.
We’ve made some really fun designs based on the feedback of cosplayers, so if you’ve got an idea for some socks that would really bring a character to life, don’t hesitate to let us know!
On the website end of things, we’ve been cooking up a new feature that we think could really elevate the shopping experience for a lot of folks. We like photographing our socks on a variety of models, to make it easier for you to envision what something will look like on you. With this new feature, we’ll be showing side-by-side comparisons of what socks look like on our various models, complete with the measurements of each model!
We’re also introducing model profiles, which include a list of favorite items for each model. The idea is that if you find a model with similar measurements to your own, you’ll then be able to see which items work for that model, making it easier to find styles that work for you! This feature is nearly ready to launch, and will be rolling out slowly as we get model data added to more of our Sock Dreams styles. We understand online shopping makes sizing tricky, and this is our latest effort to demystify the process.
As you may have noticed, a big theme from these last three days has been the importance of customer feedback to our business model. We know you dream just as big as we do, and we want to keep helping to make those dreams a reality, so please, get in touch!
