Much love to Anjana Raj for embracing her South Asian culture and finding a unique way to create an “East meets West” look to her style. Check her out here: http://www.banglebanger.com/ And here: http://instagram.com/banglebanger
AN OFFLINE ANECDOTE :: #TBGREFLECTS
The online realm can often be confusing. We portray the best versions of ourselves and create images of how we want others to perceive us. It’s not to say that we don’t do this in our day to day lives, but online, there are more barriers to cross to get to real experience.
So how do we find connection? Around three years ago we came across Anjana Raj on Tumblr and Instagram and witnessed how she seamlessly styled American and South Asian fashion to reflect aspects of her identity. We collaborated by featuring an awesome short video about her blog, ‘Bangle Banger’, which was one of the first pieces of video content we ever shared.
Connection arises when somehow, sometimes, intentions align and we reach out across continents to people in authentic ways. So when we heard that Anjana was coming to London, we knew that we had to arrange a meet up and take that connection offline.
We called Thahmina from ‘Girl with the Golden Tiffin’ and photographic genius Jahied and took to the streets of East London, intuitively working together to capture the power of what BROWNGIRLS represent.
Recently we’ve been highlighting how the emergence of the BROWNGIRL identity has been rising around the world. It’s so powerful for us to connect with each other and realise that we have so much in common and share similar experiences, even though we live miles apart.
Sending a huge thank you to Anjana for being so real, Navya for being so sweet and Thahmina and Jahied for bringing the vision to life.
Until the next time.

Bangle Banger is a space on the internet forged as a medium to represent and showcase the coalescing of a split diasporic identity. It is the purposeful othering of self to reclaim existence, culture, and identity through nurtured personal style. Because "fusion fashion" is often the conscientious symptomatic behavior of a larger form of self-acceptance. In light of hyphenated Americans such as Piyush Bobby Fucking Jindal, the celebratory nature of Bangle Banger nudges others who embody this diasporic mentality forward. We desperately need more. Bangle Banger has become more than about doing it for yourself. It's become about doing it for each other.
