hc that post-battle for the pridelands and on the way to the tree of life, bunga starts cracking jokes at his own expense in an attempt to lighten the moods of the others. and for some time, it works! everyone laughs it off because, hah, it's bunga, and bunga will always be stupid! and then.. at some point, beshte and ono start to notice just how.. concerning these jokes are. point blank self-deprecation and bunga laughs like it's nothing and everyone else follows.

so one day, they confront him about it because they're worried. you don't actually think this about yourself right? you.. you don't really see yourself that way, do you? and bunga's fighting back tears and says no, no! I'm just joking guys. anyway, even if it wasn't a joke, it'd be true, wouldn't it? and he keeps trying to make it seem like it's not a big deal (it is a big deal) and it gets to a point where bunga just has to shout (he's been waiting to say this for so long) that someone has to be okay. someone has to be happy, someone has to lighten the mood and someone has to keep smiling and laughing and that someone has to be bunga because the rest of them are not okay. and ono and beshte just look at him and tell him, it's okay for you to not be okay, too.

ono is a VERY big overthinker. ofc with 2 boyfriends who barely do any thinking at all the two have to ease their mind a lot

this is sorta just already canon but sometimes during random moments the shorter two just climb on top of beshte and have a nap .anga and the night pride/newer guard members question this at first but eventually they just get used to it like everyone else has. beshte doesn’t mind ofc he likes physical affection

bunga will (obv) get himself into never seen before batshit crazy situations a Lot. sometimes beshte has to like physically grab him to stop him from running off. when that doesn’t work ono will of course get him Out of said situations. they need to get him one of those like kiddie leashes tbh

Some Mama Binturong angst

Bunga lost himself in trying to keep up team morale with mixed results. He usually got a decent laugh out of Makini and Beshte and even Ono offered up some small chuckles. On a good day, he could even get a smirk out of Fuli.

With Kion though, it became more difficult to coax a laugh out of him. What once used to make his childhood friend laugh now irritated him and earned the honey badger a glare. That was when he started waiting for him to eat tuliza before doing so. Sometimes though, even that didn't work.

His stomach tightened as he scampered up the tree. He had to get the tuliza for him. Tuliza was all he could think about ever since his best friend was sickened with Ushari's venom

Because of him.

First Kion was bitten. Then Ono lost his eyesight saving him. Now they had to leave the Pride Lands to get help for the both of them.

Some hero he was.

The honey badger approached the lemur carefully, unsure of how to approach him. How was he supposed to ask for the tuliza without saying it? It was hard to think and keep the Guard cheered up at the same time. Maybe he could try to reassure him?

"Stop saying tuliza!"

Oh shit.

His heart sinks at the sight of Beshte's luminous blue eyes now glaring at him. Ono's soft feathery brow furrowed in disappointment only hammers the point home: he's making everything worse.

Their eyes seared him more so than even Kion's. He feigns a cough so as to disguise the rising tears.

Boiling guilt churns in his stomach and burns in his cheeks. He even upset Makini, one of the animals who is most patient with him. Now he feels like he well and truly fucked up.

Bunga forces a smile and a casual tone, in a hopeless attempt to soothe nerves. "I gotcha guys. No more saying tu-terrifc plant with no specific name!"

He receives eye rolls for his efforts. He knows their look all too well.

This isn't a game, Bunga.

Was it a game for him to help keep the Guard's spirits up?

Was it a game for him to dive headfirst into danger in defense of his friends?

Was it a game for him to simply care?

Right now, Bunga would give all the termites in the world to see Kion and Ono healed. So what if he expressed his concern differently than the others? He still cared.

However, he'd also give all the termites in the world for Beshte and Ono to stop looking at him like that.

He turned back to the frightened lemur to soothe him, for now trying to ignore the withering glares aimed his way.

WAITTTT- there's no mountain too great

Is the Ono the Tickbird ep the reason why you started shipping honeybird and greyskies and baobabfruit as a whole? (or atleast part of it?)

Because Mwenzi is Kifaru's tickbird like Ono is for Beshte. And Beshte talks about how great it is "to have a friend with you all the time." and Beshte looks at Ono. Because Beshte and Ono are always together throughout the series (as in Ono literally perches on him the most of the time (greyskies).

And Mwenzi talks about how Kifaru drives him crazy but that's because he's his bestfriend. And Ono compares that to how Bunga drives him crazy, and later tells him he'll always be his friend at the end of the episode when Bunga asks if he'll be his tickbird (honeybird).

Also them both looking at Ono at the end scene (baobabfruit).

Also, this episode basically shows us that Ono is Beshte's tickbird. And since Mwenzi leaving Kifaru and deciding to not be his tickbird anymore is basically a breakup for them.

I remember watching the episode and going "wait- this is really Baobabfruit coded, actually?" so I wanted to send an ask about it lmao

to answer your question tho, kind of! this ep isn't the reason I started shipping baobabfruit, but definitely contributed to it. if you look at some of my first tlg posts, you'll find that I already made a baobabfruit post before I liveblogged this episode (found the screenshots/posts so you wouldn't have to, lol)
