small drabble for @barbarabonetta given the feels post-NTTD. underneath a cut for minor nsfw and spoilers
As he sat on the side of the bed, he turned his back to Tatjana, her naked form still sleeping soundly far on the other side of him. It all started from a small mistake, a brush of fingers against his own, comfort that he’d ever so sorely needed and missed. To many it was only human touch but strip any privilege away from someone and it was liable to drive a man mad. Not being able to touch anyone ever again was a curse and fate worse than death and right now he didn’t believe they’d ever find a cure for his afflictions.
But this went deeper than that. Weary hands rolled over his face, the sun shining in and illuminating the room and also shedding light on what a mistake it had been. In its very self it’d been an accident. She’d been moving past him when her fingers just barely grazed the top of his hand. But with that came other facts. She was infected with the same curse as him and if anyone knew they’d become targets. Worse, it would hurt his daughter. That now meant he would have to trust Tatjana. She could kill her, she could ruin him so easily. Or they could inadvertently spread this until it caught up with Mathilde. It was a disaster and he didn’t like it at all. Not one bit.
When it happened he knew he should have been angry and cursed her for her mistake. The look on her face said it all but the look on his said so much more. Shock. Grief. Pain. That one touch alone was sensory overload for someone having been isolated for so long for so many months. He’d been cooped up like an animal with nothing but his grief for Madeleine to contend with. Then there was the sadness for being a distant father to someone who clearly needed him when there was absolutely nothing he could do about it.
Nothing. Apparently nothing.
But at that moment their fate was sealed and Bond went all in. He just needed to feel something. Comfort. Anything. When he’d grabbed her wrist tightly, he squeezed until it hurt and she had to tell him to stop. But she knew what was coming, she had to. Given their chequered past she didn’t resist when he kissed and when he’d taken her to bed it’d at first been frantic, the discarding of clothes being thrown and strewn across the room. But soon as she was naked, it evolved into something sensual. His hands had roamed and touched her wherever he could. The sensation of skin on skin felt surreal to the point it was almost an out of body experience.
And when he finally reached his climax, for that one brief moment, he felt like he was finally alive again.
But now in the cold light of day he knew this complicated everything. He couldn’t get rid of her, he couldn’t leave and there was always the danger that she would suddenly think he was emotionally available. With the spectre of Madeleine ever present and sitting on his shoulder he believed sincerely it just wasn’t possible.
At that thought, Tatjana shifted behind him. “James?”
From the back he struck a dejected form. Now he was truly defeated. For a moment he couldn’t find his voice, the enormity of their mistake sitting on his shoulders far worse than any one man he’d had to save the world from.
Then it came out of him. Rage. Bitterness and sadness. In the moment he meant it, but later he would reflect that it was undeserved for someone who’d only ever tried her best to help him.
“Go to hell...” he uttered cruelly, the words a vicious whisper.
It was then that he stood, took his clothes and went into another room. He’d always prided himself on his control, but right now all he wanted more than anything was to burn the bloody house down with the both of them in it.
Maybe then he’d finally get the solace he was looking for.

Pain. The whole thing had been a world of pain. If it wasn’t for the fact that Madeleine had already died which subsequently left Mathilde, his flesh and blood, alone he wouldn’t have tried to even escape Safin’s lair, he’d have accepted his fate. But instead here he was. Again, heartbroken, a shell of his former self. Sentiment had won out and if anyone knew he was a literal walking weapon then his stock would doubtlessly rise.
The plan, one could say, had been executed perfectly. He was exiled to his home in Jamaica where supplies were delivered but he had no contact with the outside world, not even with his daughter. Meanwhile, Q worked frantically trying to see if there was any way at all that they could cure him of his affliction.
There was no time to bond with Mathilde and he barely knew her at all. Yet, he knew it best, the loss of a parent to a child impacted them so deeply and he had no idea if she would accept him at all.
It was too much to comprehend. But eventually, Q. informed him that Tatjana had volunteered to isolate herself with him while she ran some tests and tried to find if they could source or fashion some sort of a cure. Obviously, he was sceptical but he waited for her at the dock of his home an unshaven, unkempt mess.
Perhaps he should have just let those missiles take him. It may have been more fitting, or so he thought.

It was uncharacteristic to say the least. There was nothing that suggested she was about to fall sick or that they'd been exposed to anything. But that didn't mean that she wasn't. Right away he came to her side and assessed her. Noting the sweat on her brow and the way she was double over in pain, he guessed it was some kind of poison, and without anyone around to help them right away he'd have to improvise.
Grabbing some salt, he poured it in some water and pinched her nose. "Drink it all. It'll make you sick. After that I'm going to have to get you medical attention."

[Text - Tatjana]: Yes, I was ignoring you. [Text - Tatjana]: I thought it’d be amusing to see how deep you dig with a shovel. [Text - Tatjana]: Thanks for the laugh. [Text - Tatjana]: And for your information, my arse has gotten me out of more trouble than you can even imagine. 😊

This was the first time she'd shown any kind of obvious interest in him, not that he was at all surprised, he knew his pull and how popular he was with women. He was unable to stop himself. He knew she would probably be wildly inexperienced but there was no harm in a one off even if she wasn't really his type.
He made a move closer to her, his blue eyes fixed on hers, dangerously close. Rough hands came up to her shoulders, clasping onto them there. "Now we can't be having that..." The words were said low, husky even, and he knew very well what he could do with just his lips alone.

It’d been enough to stop him in his tracks when he finally grew tired of her following him. There’d been some talk around the double-o’s offices that Q. had a new assistant but Bond never imagined that this would be their first introduction. To say he was unimpressed would be an understatement and he wondered if this was Q.’s way of playing a very nasty trick on him. Either that or he was avoiding him which wouldn’t be all too surprising considering the amount of times Bond threatened him.
The hand that was in the pocket of his trousers jumped out and he tugged the envelope away from her. “I work better alone.” Someone else, particularly a woman, usually meant unneeded baggage and distractions. “In the very least the tickets best be first class.” A thumb went to peel back the opening of the envelope and he inspected his identity for the trip. “Liam Atwood.” Hmm. Atwood. Someone had a sense of humour. Then he turned his attention to the tickets. They weren’t ideal. Premium economy. Now he frowned. That meant hours of being next to her. Hopefully she wasn’t a talker.
Bond didn’t say anything else, instead turning and making his way outside. “If you’re that intent on spying on me, you should hurry up,” he called after her.
