Gil was out for one reason and for one reason only: meeting a Tinder match from out of town, getting a few drinks, and eventually stumbling back to the Tipton.

It was his own fault for being so damn punctual. He’d been sipping on a vodka soda at the bar for about fifteen minutes, when he got a message from the person saying that they couldn’t make it but it was nice to chat and if he was still interested after 1 am, they could meet him in the lobby of the hotel. 

Gil considered this. He could go home, microwave some leftovers, watch something on Netflix, then trek over to the Tipton. But also — was he that desperate? His finger hovered over the keyboard, but before he could text back —

“Oh my gosh! Wa— Gil!” And he turned around to find Shiftwell grabbing his shoulder, giddily smiling. “Barbie! Look who’s here! Oh my goodness, this is so lovely. It is so nice to see you. Isn’t it Barbie? Doesn’t he look nice?”

“Have you had a lot to drink?” Gil directed his question to Barbie more so than Holley, who stumbled forward and tried to flag the bartender over.

Divide and Conquer || Barbil

Agent Gabor was dead.

These things, they happened. Every agent in the RAS knew that. Even if you did not know someone who had personally died in action, you had heard of someone who had given their life for the cause. This was not even the first agent Gil knew who had died, though it had certainly been the first time they’d left him in charge of the case at hand.

Gil did not want this. Gil was not even supposed to be in Swynlake for a prolonged period of time —

And yet, that poacher had gotten away. Gil had chased after the stranger in the woods, instead of staying by Bianca’s side, and the man still walked free.

At the very least, he could find that man while here.

He sat across from Roberts at her dining table. Agent Gabor’s apartment had already been cleaned out, her files dispensed between both him and Roberts. They were combing through them now, trying to figure out what the hell to even do next.

Gil cleared his throat. 

“I suppose we should start with Shiftwell and Rogers,” he said. “I imagine their duties will be more or less the same, but we may need them to take up some more intern managing than before.”
