Vocalist Barb Jungr just recently came to NYC performing new music from latest CD, "Shelter From The Rain," released on Linn Records. This is the third recording in her entire career where's she recorded and translated the work of musical poets Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. This recording also features the arraging and piano talents of the great Lawrence Hobgood who is now Barb's accompianist. Bassist Matt Clohesy and percussionist Wilson Torres also back Miss. Jungr for her Joe's Pub engagement.
For well over 30 years, Barb Jungr has blessed stages all over the world with her unique meshing of rock, folk, jazz, and pop genres of music interpretations that leave music fans uplifted as well as entertained. She strays away from the great "American songbook" and gives light and new interpretations to artists of her generation like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, and Laura Nyro just to name a few.
I had the honor to sit down and interview Barb during her two night sold-out engagement at Joe's Pub in New York last weekend to talk about why writers Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen are relevant now, her role as a vocalist, and why she doesn't like to catorgized as a musician.
