Not everyone's parents are helpful, knowledgable or present. Knowing when and how to ask for help isn't a sign of weakness ya doofus.

I read something interesting where someone pointed out that in the US nice teeth are a status symbol. In places like the UK where oral healthcare is a given, people give significantly fewer fucks about what they look like. Id never connected to dots
