HELP SAVE LIVERPOOL MUSIC!
This coming Saturday (10th December) at the Lomax Liverpool, three bands plus a singer/songwriter will be taking to the stage in a bid to entertain. Nothing unusual about that and it will no doubt be happening at a multitude of venues throughout Liverpool on that night.
The main difference is that this night is focused on musicians and attracting music fans, rather than the trick of relying on friends and families to keep the numbers respectable...
Stop! Rock & Roll 1 took place in the Barcelona Bar and proved that there was a desire for live music still in this city and that there were enough quality bands to convince people to come watch. If not, the entrance was free so nothing lost. If however, you liked what you heard, then people could throw a few pennies the way of the bands via some little envelopes scattered around the venue...
There were over 100 people there that night to watch The Big I Am, The James Whitehouse Band and The Wayward Travellers play 3 storming sets that set the bar high for quality control for future nights. Not bad for a first attempt.
Stop! Rock & Roll 2 has gone international with Spanish band Stay (recent support for Beady Eye in Madrid) jetting in to entertain, along with The Fall Of Kings, the InByOnes and Rufus Hok.
The night is not just about watching bands though. As I mentioned before, you can get that anywhere. Its also a chance for people in associated industries to network with each other and bands. So if you're a photographer/have a studio/ are a manager/run a website/review bands/studying journalism and are looking to get reviews or interviews etc... then we'll find a space for you in the room to meet the bands that are working hard to get noticed.
Given the recent closures of respected venues such as the Masque and the CUC, Stop! Rock & Roll 2 has taken on a new aspect. It is aiming to be a meeting/focal point for anyone who cares for the Liverpool music scene and has an opinion on how to make it better for fans and bands.
I'm not a music promoter so I have no clues how it is supposed to be done. I'm just a music fan who happens to play in a band who wants there to be a scene to play in. Hopefully there will be enough people with an opinion there on Saturday to start to make a difference. For a city that is supposed to have a deep interest in culture and the arts, there is potentially irreparable damage being done to our live music scene at the minute and I hope people will join us on Saturday for quality music and a chance to save our music scene.
PREFERENCE FOR PLAYING THE GIGS GOES TO BANDS WHO COME SAY HELLO ON THE NIGHTS AND SHOW WILLINGNESS TO MAKE THE NIGHT WORK. IF YOU WORK FOR THE NIGHT THE NIGHT WILL WORK FOR YOU!! COME ARMED WITH DEMO'S!!
WE'RE ALSO GOING TO BE OFFERING DJ SETS TO BANDS BETWEEN SETS AND AFTER THE NIGHTS SO IF YOU FANCY IT THEN GIVE US A SHOUT TOO.
