I am going to be searching my local used video store for "In the Heat of the Night" and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" now because your Sidney Poitier Posting has been very effective, and I'm excited because I remember definitely wanting to watch "Guess Who's..." years back, but missed out when it was playing on Turner Classic Movies and forgot about it. Thanks for putting them on my dash!!💞

"A Patch of Blue" is another Sidney Poitier film I remember also really wanting to watch way back, but I'm unfortunately a huge procrastinator and again forgot to ever look for it. I've heard it's a good film, though!

Hi Bard!!! Other people have asked for these BUT I came up with additional answers <3 6) Episode of tv or webisode that defined the year for you? I want to give a shoutout to this year’s finale of the Great British Bake-Off. I’d never watched a season in its entirety before but I wanted to join my beloved @partlyironic in their excitement and I’m so glad I did. The whole season was really spectacular and I was rooting for almost everyone, which is a nice feeling to have while watching a reality series lmao. 11) Something you want to do again next year? I know I got very lucky to be able to see the Northern Lights as vividly as I did in October, but it would be great to be able to see them again! Of course, part of the reason I was able to this time around was because I’ve been unemployed and could travel north on a whim, so if I were to be able to see them again I’d have to get extremely lucky with timing, etc.

18) A memorable meal this year? Another food adventure inspired by more frequent trips to the farmers’ market for groceries instead of going to the grocery store. This started because of a Canada-wide boycott of the big grocery chains but it’s now become sort of a habit, since the food is fresher and cheaper overall at the market. I especially love getting fresh salmon and trout, and here’s how I used some salmon for one delicious meal after a failure on my part to successfully poach eggs. I’ll get ‘em right eventually but for these, I fried up some duck eggs (also from the market) and popped them onto slices of sesame seed challah bread with spinach and salmon. SO GOOD

Is there anything in Mike's filmography you wish you could rewatch for the first time??

MASH. That’s it. Well, maybe the episode of “Circle of Fear” he was in - “Elegy for a Vampire.” That was so hilarious that I’d like to experience that feeling of WHAT THE FUCK all over again. Other than that, I love Mike but he can only do so much with a subpar script.

Unrelated to MASH, but outside of BJ, what is your favorite character that Mike has done? You don't have to consider the movie/show he was in to be good, but like what other character(s) that he's played do you like the most?

Bard, you are such a joy for asking me this. You know me. I love any and all opportunities to ramble on and on about Mike and anything he has ever done outside of MASH.

For those of you who don't know, Mike Farrell is absolutely my favorite "celebrity," and has been since... forever. I've followed his career for years and years and years and I've seen probably 93% of the things he has a credit for. There's a few items that I've never been able to get my hands on, but slowly but surely I will. ANYWAY.

I have a few that I just love him in.

1.) Al Socconis in The Bill Cosby Show. He's not even in this for very long, but he really shines when he does comedy. Plus LOOK AT HIM?

2.) Jack in "Love and the Hot Spell" (Love, American Style). HOLY SHIT IS HE FUNNY IN THIS. Honestly, Mike really shines in comedy. This is just... it's so funny.

3.) Jonah Malcom in "Persona" (Law and Order SVU). He's the sweetest old man in this episode, and ugh. Breaks my heart.

4.) Finally, Lee Miglin in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Admittedly, I have only watched this twice because... it hurts too much. It's not for the faint of heart. I had no idea about this story, and when I heard Mike was in it - I just...latched on. I watched because I love Mike and watched anything he was in. I was not prepared, but he's so good in it. It's one of the only things he's been in (since MASH) that he has made me cry in. I cried at Providence, but that's from laughter and secondhand embarrassment so it doesn't count.

2 . what’s a detail that you would consider insignificant but you like?

Probably that BJ's little jar of dirt actually shows up throughout the remainder of the series. It could've easily been forgotten about and never appeared again, but it stayed in the Swamp and showed up all the way through GFA.

5 . do you have a favorite patient? which and why?

Private Schaeffer. The guy that was gunning for a Section 8 and wasn't a real lawyer, but convinced Klinger that he was one. I really appreciated that the writers weren't afraid to show that getting out of the army wasn't just something Klinger was doing - that other men were actively coming up with schemes as well - and doing more elaborate ones than Klinger. It's a really really well done commentary on how people weren't afraid to look "crazy," if it meant getting their asses out of the craziest fucking thing on the planet. War.

16 . you can pick one of the write off characters to stay on the show and develop, the others’ roles don’t change. who are you picking?

Frank Burns. Larry was too good of an actor to let go. I feel like there was a lot that could've still been done with Frank's character that didn't have to involve Margaret - and introducing him to Charles? Even for one season, having the crossover of the two would've been so so good. I'm not sure how the Swamp Rat dynamic would work with four instead of two, and I definitely wouldn't want to be 3 vs 1 - so even if Frank got transferred to the 8063rd and appeared from time to time. Something.
