Thorin knows he’s staring, and it takes all his will to tear his gaze from Bilbo’s form. Without the hobbit’s linen undershirt covering him, he can see a knot of mithril pulsing on his lower back with long lines growing out of it up his body and into his hair and down beneath the water. Mahal, Bilbo glows.

It’s been months since the dragon woke and sometimes Bard still lies awake at night, thinking about everything that’s changed. The only home he’s known, Laketown, lost to dragonfire. Once a bargeman, now a king, he and his children live in the Castle of Dale. No longer picking up the Elvenking's wine barrels, but having meetings with him.
