Still daydreaming at work, thinking about my Barduil Pirates!AU, and I was so happy to found a very sweet yet dark and enchanting song about a sailor, which I associated with Bard instantly… and now that i know it’s from the latest Wuthering Heights movies im so mixed about it 🫠 here is the link, the instrumental is quite calm but so atmospheric, and the words sung just hit that deep spot inside that makes us both sad and happily nostalgic

But for the AU it would fit perfectly a part of the narrative. Indeed Bard is a sailor from the begining, at first because of the work he’d been forced to take to earn money, and that’s how him and his late wife would have met one day as his ship stopped in the port where she lived. They would have fallen in love, and lived a life often separated by the sea, more than they would have liked. Yet they fell hard together, and thus she wrote a song about them. She would sang it to their children, and it would be a way for all of them to be linked even when the ocean is between them.

When she dies, perhaps due to an illness while travelling on ship, Bard refuses to sing it ever again. Sigrid can only remember the melody, and then teach it to her siblings. They can only hum it, and sometimes they seem to hear their father joining them in the wind, even when’s he’s far away at sea. But they can’t remember the words.

He only sings it when he’s alone on his ship, and one day when he meets Thranduil, and they learn about one another, gets close to one another, he tells him about it. About the song his dearest wife wrote for him, how it made him feels and why she did so. How it clings to him, even when he refuses to sing it aloud for someone else. Maybe Thranduil hears it from his children, or once when his last good ear catches a few notes while the wind is high, the sea crashing into the ship’s hull, and Bard is singing it to the ocean as an old habit he can’t shrink from. And then Thranduil hums it back to Bard while he soothes his worries by brushing his dark locks, in the darkness of a shared cabine in the middle of the night, in the middle of the sea, where sailors reclaims their freedom from their feelings lost at sea

Daydreaming about my barduil!potc au again.. this time i got lost in thoughts while listening to music on the way back home, and Golden by Harry Styles passed in my ears.. something something about finding solace in a new embrace, having a hard time letting go and getting outshined by this new person in your life… yet since they found each other they can’t seem to quit one another now… golden.. being overwhelmed by this new and unfamiliar connection.. but also so scared of losing it.. and i know that you’re scared because hearts get broken…
