The huge fireplace designed by the owner heats the kitchen like a furnace and is equipped to roast, grill, and bake, as in an eighteenth-century house. The mantel, made of an old barn beam, holds folk-art weathervanes, and nineteenth-century American candlesticks stand on either side of the fireplace.
