The Body Snatcher. A male barn owl flies straight towards me, giving me the perfect opportunity to capture the special moment. I'd been surveying this barn owl over the course of 2 weeks, watching its flight routes and where it likes to hunt. The other day I felt that it was time to use the knowledge I'd built over my previous sightings of him and to finally get into position for 'the shot'. My aim was to capture a head-on shot of this incredibly beautiful bird of prey. It began with me spotting him flying rather high across the river and over to another break in the river, I took this as my opportunity to get myself into position and hide myself among a small bush, which would conceal me. I waited around 45 minutes and then I saw him fly over the reedbed in the distance and coming my way. My excitement and nerves grew with every beat of his wings as he approached, when suddenly he took a sharp left and disappeared over a bank. Then a minute later he reappeared over the bank flying straight towards me and that's when I captured this photograph. In Time For The Storm. A male barn owl flies towards home as the light changes and raindrops begin to fall. The wind picks up strength and just as he makes it home, I feel the first drop of rain on my face. It is also time for me to make my way to shelter. I find shelter under a large tree with my camera covered to protect it from the rain. I emerge some 20 minutes later to almost darkness. It was a freak dusk shower and as fast as it became a heavy downpour, the rain had subsided and it was fine to finally make my way back to my car. If it hadn't have rained, I wouldn't have seen the barn owl flying to get out of the rain, so I was in the perfect place at the perfect time.
