Aw shit! Had a somewaht busy weekend and forgot to post this week’s #quiltsquare which is one of a trio from the western approach to Kagawong. . . Since this square features a combination of squares and triangles with 4 sets of 4 points it seemed appropriate for #QuiltrCode episode 16. . . Unfortunately, even after extensive research I wasn’t able to identify this #barnquilt with 100% accuracy. . . But discovered that it appears to be a variation of the Union Square quilt block. . . Itself one of many variations of the classic Ohio Star quilt square. . . I also found an alternative reference which identified this pattern as a #Honeymoon #quiltblock . . However, both Honeymoon and Union Square do not typically feature mirrored second triangles for the middle points. . . Seen here in the same light blue as the main centre square of the classic design. . . Quilting A Mystery - Had a lovely chat with the proud owner of this #quiltblock from Heart’s Home near Tehkummah who came out with her daughter and dog to make sure it was straightened for my picture taking and documentation. . . The owner told me that she was careful to care for her #quiltsquare by applying a fresh coat of varnish each season to maximize preservation. . . I applauded her dedication, as I have now documented several warped, damaged and degraded #barnquilt specimens across the Island. . . What I regret is asking her if she knew the block’s name or identification? . . As I just spent over 2 hours sorting through no less than a couple thousand quilt block and #hexsign specimens without finding a pattern that fully matches the tri-colour simplicity of this unusual diagonal lozenge design. . .
