Not wanting to overshadow the previous ask, but this last month my husband and I, who have been following you for some time now, got married two weeks ago! Huzzah!

I'm talkin about JK Rowling again because fuck it, it's what's on my mind.

Not her specifically, but recently the Hogwart's Legacy came out (Recently being relative to my life, anyway). My mom got the game, and very excitedly wanted to talk about it with me.

The gamer son who plays a lot of games and likes to be very critical of games.

And I had to tell her that I wasn't interested in it because I didn't want to support JK Rowling's work. (I am aware that she didn't make the game or anything, but Harry Potter has kind of just been sulloed for me.)

And she looked so... disappointed.

I was disappointed.

This was the first time she'd reached out to me about games before, and I had nothing to say.

Fuck you, Joanne. I'll see you in hell for ruining your creations.

You ever learn something about someone you looked up to, and you can, like, FEEL the stages of grief when they do something fucked up?

Like, you admired and were genuinely affected by some of the things they said and did. Some of their philosophies shaped how you think. Especially if they made you think critically about something you hadn't thought of before.

And then you start to hear about the shitty things they've done and you start to question your exsistence.

At first you don't wanna believe it. This is someone who possibly saved your life at one point. They made you who you are. But now, you can only look back and think of how those things are tainted because when you looked up their name, the first thing you now see is the bad thing they did.

This compounds if someone did something that genuinely hurt someone else. Now nothing makes sense anymore.

I think that acceptance is realizing that you can separate the good from the bad. You aren't associated with them directly. It's okay to like a song by a shitty person. Find a cover that scratches the same itch if you don't want to give money to them. It's okay to like things that shitty people made. Pirate the things you like, and cut out the rest. Because you can't let them take the you that you put into content.
