The sound of shattering glass surrounded Rose as she squeezed her eyes shut. It ended just as it started: abruptly. She couldn’t hear the sounds of the city anymore. No idle chatter, no cars behind her, no breeze on her face. The world seemed to have gone completely still.
Rose opened her eyes and saw she stood... where what seemed to be the same place. In front of the antique shop. Only, the window she thought had cracked remained perfectly intact. It was almost as if she imagined it all.
But no, something was different. She was somewhere else. The air was dense with magic, the same kind she was only beginning to sense in the human world. Had she found it then? The World of Objects with Souls? Rose couldn’t remember opening the portal, though. She had only paused in front of the store due to the strong residue of magic.
