FIRST THREE EVERYONE IN MY INBOX GET KISSES | Accepting

☾          She came from working at the hat shop, it was late, she didn’t know who was there or whether Calcifer was awake or not, but she was no sneak-in. “I’m hom…” Her words froze as her foot about to step on the next rung. She sighed and finished walking up the brief stairs, then she corrected herself. “I’m here!”

          ‘Well, from when did I start consider this my home?’ It was not in a bad sense that she was self-conscious of the topic, she found the castle to be cozy and warm, it was just that perhaps Calcifer and Howl didn’t even see her as one permanent partner to live with…Still, it didn’t mean she couldn’t heat herself at the feet of the fireplace when she had just come from the cold outside. She sat on the chair in front of it -with nothing but the fire’s light and company as no one responded- rubbing her hands together and staring at the mesmerazing flames. The heat it provided at the moment made her in a few seconds fond of it, she was grateful of the never dying fire, was it Calcifer or not, she couldn’t tell.

          “Thank you.” She whispered, cajoled, her words per se were quietly said and she had her mouth and nose covered with her hands, whoever could be there, she was sure it wasn’t hearable. She nearly reached the flames with them as she wanted to capture the heat again -yet it seemed as if she caressed the vibrant colors- only to realize familiar colorful flames like eyes looking at her. “Mmh?… Calcifer! I didn’t know you were awake, I didn’t know you were here.” Her hands retrieved. “And, that... Was not an indirect kiss I gave you.” Moody for the surprise -intentional or not- she leaned back heavily on the chair and turned her head to the side, embarrassed of such a display of any trait that was not her usual roughness or sarcasm, giving only a peek towards the fireplace again where his flaming eyes were still looking at her. For a moment she thought she was rude and felt regret, she was just dozy...But...Perhaps he only was as well. ‘What good can come from this.’ She surrendered, letting go of a sigh as she looked at him. After a few seconds she was candid again. ‘I can’t say I’m unthankful...’

Unexpectedly and slowly she bent over and kissed his cheek flames, warm but not burning. She straightened again.

“Sorry...That was a kiss.”

                                                                                                     Even before she thought to mention the fact that she happened to be acquainted with a demon who had suffered a similar predicament to his, Haku had suspected as much all along. It was her persistence that gave her away, the almost bone-deep, instinctive need to protect him or otherwise figure out what needed to be done to allow him to leave the world of the spirits. True, she might have just been a kind-hearted person ( the way she’d conducted herself around him thus far certainly had given him no reason to believe otherwise ) but to him, this seemed to go beyond that. Her behavior implied to him that his story resonated with her personally – not only that, but that she knew of a way to make things right. Or at least had an idea in that general direction.

    He was undoubtedly touched by her efforts to assist him, and yet, ultimately, he couldn’t allow himself to stake too much faith in such a thing. It had been what felt like eons since he’d come to reside in the bath house, and in all that time, he’d tried just about everything to restore his memories and go back to the home he’d once known, even attempted to steal the secrets of the witch he worked for. Absolutely nothing had worked for him thus far – how on Earth could anything in the human world accomplish what he’d failed to do all these years? It wasn’t at all something he could easily picture being possible; it was tempting to daydream over, but languishing would only get him so far.

    The question of his identity was the one he found easiest to answer. “You may call me Haku, if you’d like,” he told her with the slightest nod of his head, the beginnings of a rueful smile touching the edges of his mouth for just a moment before his facial expression returned to its usual calm neutrality. “But I’m afraid I still don’t know what I ought to call you, either,” he added, the look in his eyes softening by just a fraction.

    Only now did it dawn on him what an enigma this silver-haired woman was to him. In spite of what her hair and style of dress would suggest, she appeared to be relatively young, though he could feel the straggling remnants of a curse buzzing in the air around her. It was a spell that had since been broken, and yet, some residual traces still seemed to have stuck around – perhaps that was where the unusual hair color came from. Haku couldn’t help but feel the slightest bit staggered at the realization of how little he knew about her; he considered himself fairly adept in the art of reading people, and yet, there wasn’t a great deal he could glean from the conversation they’d been having so far.

    And yet, in spite of all that, he was admittedly intrigued by her offer. All logic told him that there was no possible way for him to escape the spirit world – not for too long, anyway – but he supposed it wouldn’t hurt to entertain the idea. How far, he wondered, could he get before Yubaba sent her cronies after him to drag him back to this place? It wasn’t something he’d ever truly challenged before; perhaps he would find that if he took this chance, he would be able to combat her and at last be free. It was a definite risk, of course, but … well, all that would be worth it in the event that he should succeed.

    “I …” there was little denying the truth of what she’d said to him. There was someone he dearly wanted to reconnect with, and if going away with this woman would provide him the opportunity … “You could say that, yes. It’s been some time, though – I’m not certain if there’s any way that I could possibly find her. Is that – would that be something that you are capable of doing? Helping me to see her again, that is?”

☾          There was no need to repeat his name, as she did with others or as it was used to happen subconsciously to prove it was gotten right. As she had perceived it, it was not a typical nor traditional name from where she was and oh, there was an amout of land in Ingary which she had not explored that that name could come from...Still she knew it could not be from any of those places, it was really a whole other far-off land she had come into. But the name was clear as water.

          “Haku...” There was no need, yet, her voice embraced the word to confirm it was how she would call him from then on. “I am...Sophie” A contrite smile followed her name, said slowly but reliant, which would come off as distant as his, she thought. He had probably tried to wrap his mind around the reason she was there in the first place and she was sure no one would see, what a scenario, coming. The Hatter felt there should be more presentation on her part. “I am a simple working girl, perhaps too human for my own good, as I have stumbled upon you.” Sincere words, though the tone made it clear she felt gratefulness in having met him, rather than shame or regret. “My humanity might be at fault that such a common villager as me wants to help in unordinary cases.” A phrase that swept away of her perseverant personality.

          Words that as much as they were said would hardly influence the way she was, stopped reflecting on her mind, as the fact that there was someone that had indeed influenced him clouded all rumination. She had already seen herself asking his same questions to the infamous magician as there was a rough path until Sophie even knew which spell she could use to possibly see a close resolution. She just had the right acquaitances. 

’Let’s see, if she is human...’ “I know it could be easier finding her outside than in a place where she could not come in, the same you don’t go out of. Don’t we think?“ Honesty seizured her statement, as she noticed he would go out of his way for the girl. Kindness still depicted her every word. Her intentions were nothing but innocent, maybe naive, but overall pure...She had been trusted by Haku and she could not feel less than congenial.

Silver hairs overed with the breeze when she looked back, towards the old structures and what could rise beyond it. Less than a solid hour passed since she got there and she was leaving already...by then so much had changed about how she thought of it. At the beginning it was like her eyes could not ever get to appreciate it as it should be, as if she needed more time there for it to be admired, and now, the pacific scene seemed to be desperately looking to be more appealing to her. Her gaze, determined and judgmental, flooded the horizon and everything along, she felt slightly sorry that it was a secluded site but more disillusioned by it (Disappointed as a person who comitted a terrible act would get another person who trusted them.)  for she could not end to believe it. 

“I promise you, you won’t get harmed from anything coming from here for your absence...We would do our best!...To, protect you.” She would be partially responsible for his company, suddenly, she really did not want to make a mess out of it. With a softened glance her factions turned tender to look at him. If he chose to go she could not be able to stop him from worrying or being alert but they could do something to stop bad beings from chasing or cursing him. There was only left to wait for approval or denial.

“Wh- we are not even remotely similar!” the spirit protested immediately, somewhat taken aback. He doesn’t see any similarities, not even just a little. Honestly, the very thought made Calcifer gag. Sharing qualities with a hoity-toity man who has the emotional range of a five year old? No thank you. He’s taken a mental note to burn Sophies’ toast by ‘accident’ next time, just for good measure.

   There were no complaints about the pace; as long as the weather stays clear. In fact, he was quite happy to drift behind the witch just as lazily. This outing better not lead to trouble… They always seem to.

“Teach him some manners… and where would I have learned those, pray tell?” Not stuck in a gunky old grate, that’s for sure. The only reason Calcifer even knew the most basic of human etiquette is thanks to meek Michael. It was odd not having the boy around anymore, actually. “Be fair. He can be just as stubborn as you, you know that.”

☾         Sophie did not follow Calcifer on his complaints. Not in a way of not being taken seriously or not being knowledgeable, it was simply amusing as two children casually discussing would be.

          “Here is a tip, we can say that what Howl does can have a more factible way of doing. You could figure that out.” And there she was, giving a walk towards an unknown destiny (but had not her life been the same) advicing a demon who she did not think could find use in what she said either way.

           She used to get fluttered whenever she was compared or perceived around the wizard, it was a common sight already for both of them and still, she was thankful she was walking to the front, her cheeks illuminated slightly with a roseate tone, even if she knew Calcifer had said that with friendly shaming purposes. She could not help it when it came to finding compatibilities in them, as one of the characteristics in which they were similar was being clueless. 

          ’Is that so?’  Alike poles repel, do not they. With a turn of her head to see the sides as she walked, she shook away the very intrusive and not needed so called butterflies. “Well, even I can say I have been of help anyway. Otherwise that castle would be already crumbled...Or abandoned, as this place looks.” She said, drawing the attention to it again.

☏ What is the most challenging aspect of playing this muse?

(.falls into the void… well, I can only think of two challenging aspects. which i dont even know are viable, I’m still not so confident of my portrayal but here i go:

in my understanding, Soph can act one way out of two (or not) derived from her personality. In a given situation, I don’t know if she’s gonna be stubborn or if she’s gonna give in, I don’t know if she’s gonna let “x” thing affect her or not. I don’t know if she’s gonna be sarcastic or serious, because she has acted as all of that before, but sometimes it’s hard to tell which one it’s gonna be ;;

the other thing is .. I try not to mix movie’s Sophie’s and book’s Sophie’s traits. it would be a mess of her character’s personality, since both Sophies have a few same traits but not all ;; )
