Photos from the Vosbergen Museum in Eelde, near Groningen (the Netherlands). It was such an amazing experience, the museum is so so worth visiting. I was having a period instrument sensory overload the entire time (I even got to play some of the old flutes which was wooaahhhhh)

Robbie Lee & Mary Halvorson — Seed Triangular (New Amsterdam)
Seed Triangular by Robbie Lee and Mary Halvorson
2018 might be remembered for many things, but for Mary Halvorson it’ll be one more year when she put out a lot of records. Seed Triangular is the fifth, following two Thumbscrew records, a duo with Bill Frisell and the complex, commanding song project Code Girl. It also represents a bit of a purple patch for Robbie Lee, a multi-instrumentalist who works often with other musicians but can go years without a record of his own. But this is the year he has decided to put a peculiar intersection of interests on display. Seed Triangular is actually his idea, and on it, as on Opalescence, his LP with Baroque flute player Norbert Rodenkirchen and double bassist James Ilgenfritz, he presents improvisations played on exotic instruments that encourage the listener to listen past the novelty of said instruments.
Possibly composed by either Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) or Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-88) - Sonata for Flute and Harpsichord in E-flat Major, BWV 1031/H. 545, I. Allegro moderato. Performed by Wilbert Hazelzet, flute, and Henk Bouman, harpsichord, on period instruments.
Giuseppe Sarti (1729-1802) - Sonata for Flute and Harpsichord in e-minor, I. Andante con moto. Performed by Nicolai Nasonov, flute, and Irina Schneyerova, harpsichord, on period instruments.
Michael Blavet (1700-68) - Suite for 2 Flutes in G-Major, III. La Furstemberg. Performed by Jed Wentz & Marion Moonen, baroque flutes.
Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) - Chamber Concerto No. 5 for Flute, Harpsichord and Organ in b-minor, TWV 42:h1, IV. Presto. Performed by Camerata Köln on period instruments.
