DEFENDING BARROWFIELD
- Children of Lothar Campaign Music
Exasperated, one of the scouts that Elaianna had positioned to overlook the cliffs of the coastal barony had burst into the manor to alert her. Three ships with black flags sporting a white raven came towards Barrowfield on the horizon. As soon as she heard, the Baroness wasted no time. She made sure everyone at Barrowfield was on alert. Guards were directed to take precautions, including the preparation of liquid fire and cannons upon the cliff side. She used the Children of Lothar communication frequency to call for assistance. She knew who that flag belonged to. She knew why they were coming, and she remembered the words of Tara and Alasdair. They would not leave Barrowfield alone to face any of Leah’s minions, nor Leah herself if she dared to show up.
“This is Elaianna. Barrowfield has three flagships heading straight for it, all bearing Leah's flag. Requesting reinforcements at post haste. My people will do their best to hold them off in the meantime.”
As the Children of Lothar arrived at Barrowfield, they would be greeted by the sound of cannon fire, screams and the thundering of combat. From atop the cliffside, guards were fighting fire with fire. Cannons descended upon the three ships that were attacking from the water, blasting the cliff face. A little further from the estate itself the guards had brought out a defense device that Elaianna had been sitting on for quite some time after her ordeal with Warlund. Liquid fire was being prepared to be cast down upon the pirates.
The battle had been waging on for some time before they had made it. Bodies already littered the docks, belonging to both sides. The only ship that had been docked when warning came in was no longer idle. The 110 foot schooner, Tall Ship Muriel, captained by Thomas Stalsworth, was positioned in the shallows away from the docks, pelting the pirate ships with cannon fire from the side while they took more cannon fire from above.
One of the flagships had braved the shallows, getting within proximity to begin boarding. Planks were thrown across for the pirates to come at them. Some swung over by rope. They attacked to kill and in some cases, nearly did. Muriel’s crew, accompanied by Korduun and Elaianna, were becoming overwhelmed. No matter how many cannon-fires shook the ship, no matter how many bullets and blades she fended off, and no matter how many pirates were slain, it seemed like three more took their spot. It seem as if the ship would never stop quaking as it was under fire.
Had it not been for the Children of Lothar’s response, Elaianna wasn’t sure how long they’d have lasted. Lord Kestavin and Bielford ‘Whiskey’ Colburn were dropped off by gnomish paratroopers onto the Tall Ship. Air support had at least given them just enough bodies to attempt to stand on their own while the battle waged on the docks and shores of Barrowfield.
Elaianna fought tooth and nail on the upper deck of Muriel, rapier and dagger in hand. Sea legs made it so that even with the near constant shaking of the ship, the sway from the water, and the increasing amount of bodies on deck, she was able to stay standing. Agile movements kept her from taking many blows, but she was far from invincible. A bullet grazed her arm, blood splattering to the surface. When one of the cannon balls hit the deck, it sent debris and shrapnel spraying across the deck that caught Elaianna on her left side, embedding itself in the exposed flesh of her left arm, neck and left side of her face.
A pained shout from the staircase leading downwards caught her attention. Turning her head she saw a pirate tackle Captain Stalsworth down the stairs, and blood. He had been taking the brunt of the damage from the attacks and even before he went down she had seen it wearing on him. If the pirate pinned him down, she knew Thomas was resilient, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to find out just how resilient in that moment.
“Thomas!”
CRACK!
As the battle waged on the sickeningly load snap from overhead echoed in Elaianna’s head. The mast of Tall Ship Muriel fell down, crashing onto the deck. Within the same moment, explosions were going off. Elaianna didn’t even see where they had come from. With one final loud explosion, Muriel erupted. The crew and pirates alike were flung from the deck, flying in different directions, crashing into the water. The poor souls below deck were not so lucky. Including one Captain Thomas Stalsworth.

[ Thank you to everyone who came and participated in this event. This is just a VERY small excerpt from Elaianna’s point of view. Very brief in comparison to the event. We had so many people we required two DM’s/two separate parties, and I cheaped out and just put Anna’s POV here because there was so much and plenty of beautiful posts from guildies. ]

Underhanded.
Recently I have been moved out to Lady Eryn Holt’s Barrowfield estate. The request came to have me transferred several weeks ago. Much before All Hallows Eve had begun. I take pride in having been requested to guard her lands as well as her Ladyship. Many a nights and days have been spent patrolling the area of the lands. Dealing with vagabonds, poachers, the occasional transient. Nothing of major note seems to be happening, but I find it helps settle my restless personality. That is until recently. Lady Eryn has been called off to a meeting of the Northern Lords. Her mood has been sour ever since she received the summons to go. When she returned she informed me of how the meeting went. To keep it simple, Treachery. After hearing about the attempt to smear her name, it would seem I have yet another task. One that may not specifically be my specialty, but it’s certainly something I am familiar with. I am to go on the hunt to find out what I can about some of the slanderous things that have gotten out. For now, my armor is removed. I’ll take only a few weapons with me and set out to speak with some of the local serfs and those who serve under Lady Eryn. I will see if I can wander across those who are corrupted and potentially unearth their plan. I know with my size I could be recongized, but truth be told, my interactions with the local populace have been so far and few, that this is likely my best shot.
First stop, a farm supposedly burnt to the ground...
