Not only was he a great source, but he soon became her closest friend. He helped her look for meatier topics, but her meatiest material came to her by chance: a gossip article on a young actor, who she soon discovered was abusing his wife. Ashamed of herself for burying the story under pressure, Cat drifted away from Joe. It wasn’t like it was hard- Joe was about to move home to look after his ailing mother and he wanted kids when Cat had already sacrificed everything for her shot at a career. Then her Pulitzer-winning photojournalist James Olsen meets Joe’s daughter Iris, who has herself gone into journalism, at a conference. Iris is tempted to move across the country for the sake of her career, but it would mean leaving behind her best-friend and boyfriend Barry, a CSI determined to stay near his parents. Meanwhile, James has begun a relationship with Cat’s young mentee Kara, but Cat can tell a secret is tearing him apart. From across the country, the two former lovers will try to advise the next generation to do better, and it might finally drive them together again.
