DCCW “The Bold Type” AU
Kara Danvers, Iris West, and Linda Park are coworkers at CatCo… and best friends.
Kara is Cat’s assistant, but she dreams of one day being a writer. She’s ambitious behind her meek demeanor, after a rough childhood as an adoptee from Russia, but all her ambitions could be derailed when she falls for a new coworker James Olsen… and his wife Lucy at the same time. Sometimes you have to be bold in love.
Iris is a lifestyle columnist. She likes it- really she does. But she wants to do more hard-hitting journalism. She’s getting ready to marry her childhood sweetheart, but then she lands the lead on a major story. How much will she risk to find answers? Sometimes you have to be bold in discovery.
Linda is the go-to sports girl, and she’s used to being underestimated by every guy on first meeting. But then she fell for a super sweet guy- who happens to be her bestie Iris’ long lost little brother. She’s not sure yet how to tell Iris, but the longer it stays a secret the worse. Meanwhile, she’s covering it up by telling Iris she’s dating quarterback "Jax" Jackson- which if she’s found out will ruin her credibility as a reporter and/or a friend. Things get especially rocky when Jax confides in her about a dirty team secret that could make her career. Sometimes you have to be bold in betrayal.
Also starring:
James Olsen won his first Pulitzer at a young age, but he’s had a hard time finding something as worthwhile since. Most of the industry laughed when he moved to CatCo, and he’s afraid how much more ridicule he and those he loves will have to endure if the world finds out about his new polyamorous relationship. At CatCo, he finally rediscovers inspiration in the beauty the lens captures when he befriends designer and model Mari McCabe.
Mari McCabe was a young refugee of turmoil in her small African country. Once adopted in the U.S., she found a passion for art and for animals. She now designs and models her own brand of environmentally-conscientious and animal-friendly high-fashion, and she and James team to make their professional dreams come true.
Lucy Lane, in addition to a loving relationship, has a law degree and years of military experience. So she’s the first person Iris goes to while trying to figure out where her lead will take her. But Lucy has more to lose than ever before, and Iris is digging into some dangerous territory.
Wally West knows keeping secrets isn’t the best way to bond with his newfound dad and sister, and he knows they always have a way of coming out, but in the meantime, he’s all too happy to have new familial and romantic love.
Jax Jackson is the best quarterback the local team has ever had, and he’s got enough hometown loyalty to stick around. But when he finds out a dirty secret, his entire confidence in integrity and other people is shaken. How much hurt will he cause himself in exposing the truth?
Zari Tomaz is an expert on the news, but especially on how people will react. She’s a social media guru, years ahead of her peers. Now if only they would accept her.
Barry Allen exists to remind Iris how much he loves her on a daily basis. That’s kind of it.
E-S AU | When Cat Grant was a young journalist, pushed to the margins to work only on gossip articles, she befriended young cop Joe West. Not only was he a great source, but he soon became her closest friend. He helped her look for meatier topics, but her meatiest material came to her by chance: a gossip article on a young actor, who she soon discovered was abusing his wife. Ashamed of herself for burying the story under pressure, Cat drifted away from Joe. It wasn’t like it was hard- Joe was about to move home to look after his ailing mother and he wanted kids when Cat had already sacrificed everything for her shot at a career. But every day Cat regrets not asking Joe to look into that actor. Then her Pulitzer-winning photojournalist James Olsen meets Joe’s daughter Iris, who has herself gone into journalism, at a conference. Iris is tempted to move across the country for the sake of her career, but it would mean leaving behind her best-friend and boyfriend Barry, a CSI determined to stay near his parents. Meanwhile, James has begun a relationship with Cat’s young mentee Kara, but Cat can tell a secret is tearing him apart. From across the country, the two former lovers will try to advise the next generation to do better, and it might finally drive them together again.
