The perfect Brooklyn Bar Hop? Why, I’m glad you asked. Let’s go to Red Hook. It’s gonna be a long night, so how about starting at the new location of Fort Defiance for a nice hot cup of the best coffee in town? (True fact. The best. I know. I worked there.) I’d recommend an IRISH coffee, but their liquor license is still forthcoming. Be patient my pets. It’ll be worth the wait. “Best in the world,” according to The NY Times. And they’re RIGHT. Now how about dinner at my favorite dive bar in NYC, the Brooklyn Ice House right up Van Brunt Street? Dinner at a dive bar? Yes. Would I steer you wrong? Their little kitchen punches WELL above its weight. Get the pulled pork sandwiches, the chili, the dirty dogs (hot dogs wrapped in bacon), the veggie burger, ANY of the specials. You won’t be disappointed. And to drink, would monsieur care for a Hi-Beam? Yes, that’s a Miller High Life and a shot of Jim Beam for a whopping $6. Do it. Now let us move on to the cultural portion of our evening, to music, one of the seven lively arts. Sunny’s Bar on Conover. You can’t go wrong. Whoever’s playing in that acoustically perfect little back room is going to thrill the senses and knock your little woolen socks clean off and into next Tuesday. Haven’t seen music at Sunny’s? Go. Just go. Trust me. Red Hook! The neighborhood to visit for tourists and locals alike! Go thee. Have fun. You’ll love it.
