I mean sometimes the stars just align a little too perfectly. A year ago today john and I had a date at a little restaurant I heard about (ok and became obsessed with) in a documentary. By the time the last dish came to the table, I think I was in the happiest tears of my life. There are few times in which food tastes so amazing that it changes you, but this meal did that. Within a week I applied to culinary school and within two months I found an apartment in france. Life got even more serendipitous when I was sitting at a cafe in sf and saw the chefs of the very same restaurant sitting two tables down. Thanks to 20 seconds of insane courage, they invited me to stage with them for two weeks in the fall. And it was everything you'd imagine and probably more, total magic. And now, exactly one year after first tasting their food, I'm boarding a flight to spend a year studying at Le Cordon Bleu Paris and working in french kitchens. Life is strange and perfect. Thank you balla_and_burns!!

Breakfast at BarTartine
When I first started this blog, my aim was to write about my trips, my recipes and some of the local restaurants I like. I already shared with you my experience in some of my trips and my recipes, but now it’s time to start writing about the must-try restaurants in Lebanon.
BarTartine is a bakery and restaurant that first opened in Mar Mikhael around 2 years ago. It quickly acquired a good reputation, and so it started to expand. Today, it has 2 additional branches: in ABC Achrafieh and in Dbayeh. I really hope that they open a new branch somewhere close to my office (Downtown or Zaytounay Bay), so I can enjoy their food more frequently.
BarTartine’s menu includes appetizers, salads, pizzas, and platters. But my favorite part is definitely the breakfast section. I rarely have breakfast out, but when I do, it is my preferred place to be.
So here are some of the items I would recommend having there.
The Breakfast Items
- Omelette: served with some veggies.
- Labne: As I am not a fan of coriander, I just wish they replace it with mint leaves.
- Butter and Jam: Their orange (kumquat to be more specific) jam is something I haven’t tasted anywhere before… and it is delicious. I would however prefer to have bigger pieces of bread to savor this dish.
- Croissant: They offer plain, cheese, thyme, chocolate and peach croissant.
- Camembert Kumquat: My favorite item on the menu so far, as it includes cheese and… their kumquat jam (kumquat is a citrus fruit, looking like a small orange) with some roasted almonds on top. It is simply delicious…
The Lunch and Dinner Items
- Artichoke and Spinach Dip: I have tasted similar dips in other restaurants, but this one is still my favorite, with the cheese it is loaded with. To be shared.
- Chicken Sandwich and Fries: For the ones who prefer classic sandwiches.
- Pizzas: The pizza is big and I can never finish it, my favorite is the smoked salmon pizza, the other picture is for the veggie pizza.
- Salads: If you prefer having lighter meals, they have a variety of delicious salads too. My favorite is the Orange Chicken Asparagus.
Unfortunately, I didn’t try all the items on their menu. Otherwise, I would have had more mouthwatering pictures to share with you. And it also hit me while writing this article, that I didn’t even try their dessert yet! The problem is that I get full every time before I even finish what I ordered and I get no place left in my stomach for dessert.
Apparently, I still have a lot to taste at BarTartine: their quiche, their burgers, their steak, and of course their desserts.
So, where are you eating this weekend?
First time at #bartartine :)
