Amycus pressed his forehead to Hal’s shoulder and let out a shaky sigh as he ran a hand over the dog’s back. Hal sat there in front of Amycus, occasionally sniffing his owner’s hair or trying to lick his head. Amy was sitting on the floor with Hal between his legs, both occupying a corner in the kitchen. He didn’t feel like getting up; though he knew he should. He was starting to feel cold in just a shirt, and the smell of the food he’d left abandoned on the counter was making his stomach twist. Why was he like this?
He couldn’t help it. Amycus hadn’t thought he’d get this upset over something he knew would happen. He knew at some point Rabastan would realize he wasn’t good enough for him and dump him. Rab had been nice about it, at least, but it still hurt a lot. Desperately Amycus wanted to make it up to him, by doing something, anything, but he knew there was nothing he could do to make things better. It was best they just. Not talk for a while. IF he didn’t harass Rab, maybe they could at least stay friends.
When the doorbell rang Amycus lifted his head from Hal’s side. The dog woofed and looked towards the front door, then started letting out small barks as the doorbell rang a second time. Hal headed to the front door, sniffing at the crack of it and now pawing at the door. Amycus dragged himself to his feet as Hal hopped about and pawed at the front door, wanting to see whoever was on the other side.Trudging on over, Amycus grabbed Hal by the collar to hold the dog back when he opened the door.
“Oh...Hi, Barty.” Hal barked with excitement, trying to lunge at Barty with his tail wagging a mile a minute. Amycus held the dog back from jumping up onto his friend, glancing over the other with a tired look. He seemed less than enthused to see him. Truthfully, he didn’t want to see Barty at all. It felt too sore, to know Barty was one of the reasons Rab had broken up with him. “I’m sorry, I forgot. Forgot you were coming, really. Uhm, come in.” He dragged Hal back as he spoke, moving both of themselves out of the doorway to let his friend inside.
