English-made Empire style teapot, 1805-1815
Unusual, nearly oval-shaped basaltware teapot - ie unglazed black stoneware made in England. Richly decorated with foliage and figural motifs of woman and child. Knob in the shape of a swan on the lid. Motifs on both faces framed in fluted pilasters. Straight, fluted spout. R and D deeply stamped on the base.
