im a macmillan poster so i was wondering if u had any thoughts or ideas abt macmillan and price's relationship. and. macmillan in general! :)
I've done a few Macmillan-esque things:
Macmillan Shovel Talk
Father Baseplate
Cameo in Dehydrated Baby Price
I have a few more headcanons about him:
His first name is Rory. No one calls him that but his ma, and that's only when he's in trouble. Everyone else calls him Mac.
He unironically likes Iron Bru. No one dares make a fuckin' joke about it though. Price quietly drops one off on his desk, along with a Yorkie Bar, if he wants him to sign off on somethin' gnarly.
He was Price's first major crush. Hero worship mixed in with all the high emotions and physicality of the job, and seeing all that roguish Scot naked in the shower just sat Baby Price off like nothing else. Did he want to be Mac? Did he want Mac? Both? Either way, there were a high number of furious, shameful wanks in sleeping bags/bunks in those early years.
I think Price went after Soap not necessarily because Soap reminds him of himself, but because Soap reminds him of Mac, right down to the accent. He sees it as continuing Mac's legacy by ensuring someone with his spirit, energy and dedication continues to serve into the next generation. (DOUBLE WHAMMY ANGST WHEN THE THING HAPPENS.)
Mac was Price's first decent male role model. Price realised the importance of such a figure in someone's life, which is what he tries to emulate with the lads in the 141, especially Simon. In his opinion, he's not as good at it (because he isn't a carbon copy of Macmillan). The 141 would disagree. *
Macmillan sometimes worries about what he created in Price. He's like Frankenstein's monster in many ways; Macmillan created the soldier he wished he could be, even at the expense of doing a lot of damage to said man in the process. I don't think Baseplate would have shot Shepherd and he knows it, but he created a soldier who would and now they have to deal with that.
I'm still ruminating on him quite a lot. I think he shaped Price into what he is, so getting Macmillan right is integral to getting Price right.
* He collects broken boys because he was also a collected broken boy; Mac collected him, put a gun in his hand, pointed him in a direction and gave him purpose. Mac taught him to get the job done, cut the red tape. Price continues the cycle.
