Gonna be real, y’all literally have no reason to be so rude to people who ship certain ships. (I say this as someone whose most controversial ship is one with a 3 year age gap, dead serious.)
Sure, I find some things gross. Sure, I hate some things. Sure, I think some characters don’t work together. Sure, I don’t enjoy certain topics in fiction. Those are feelings I don’t have much control over, and likely neither do you. That’s fine.
But I will never condone people trying to harass or express vitriol towards these real people who are just trying to have a good time with their creativity. I have never outwardly called another person gross for liking something in fiction, no matter what I think about how they see fictional characters.
They’re fictional characters, in fictional scenarios, in fictional stories. You can avoid them, and they don’t actually hurt anybody. You can be grossed out or feel however the hell you want, and you can do as I do and go about your day without hurting any real person. The block button exists. Filters exist.
At the end of the day, my perspective stems from anti-censorship. I am against the idea of controlling what people can write or portray because it is a slippery slope. You can twist my words, say I ‘condone’ blahblahblah or ‘like’ blahblahblah, but at the end of the day I simply condone creative freedom. That takes precedent. It says nothing about what I find enjoyable in fiction.
Now go enjoy your ships and please leave other actual people alone. Curate your internet experience and be happier, please.
