A Bat!Eddie fic where he transforms when nervous/stressed. He keeps randomly transforming around Steve and Steve just can't figure out why. It's happening more frequently too even as Eddie seems to be getting a handle on it. It's cause he's madly in love, obviously. Steve might be starting to be suspicious and sad that Eddie's still that uncomfortable around him though.
If anyone wants to write this, or has any good fic recs please share 🥺🥺🥺
That whole night, Nancy kept vigil, her eyes closing only long enough to keep them from drying out. She held tight onto her husband and knew with their size, it didn’t appear that she could do much to protect him but she would. She was exhausted by the time sunrise came, but when Steve opened his eyes, she knew he was still hers.
“I have something to tell you”, she said, barely letting him get a yawn out.
“Wha?” Steve rubbed his eyes.
Nancy sighed and let him fully wake up first. They were sitting at the kitchen table in their robes and Steve was halfway through his first cup of the day when she finally spoke up.
“Eddie is a vampire. And he wants you. Like…not for blood-or maybe not just for blood. But for…”
Steve gave her a long stare. “I know.”
“You-? You know?! How long have you known?”
“...Remember those dreams I was having?”
Nancy swallowed. Of course. From the moment Eddie had arrived he had his sights on Steve. Probably even for longer than that, if the myths around vampires were true. How long had he been watching Steve?
“I think he’s very close to enacting his plan”, Nancy said. “Our home isn’t safe anymore. No home is.”
Steve paused in the middle of taking a sip. “You’ve been making your own plans. What are you going to do about a literal vampire, Nancy?”
“I can get a stake in him just fine. But I won’t use you to get to him again. I won’t risk you. So you need to go somewhere he can’t go.”
“Wait, wait, wait, hold on. What do you mean ‘again’? And what place could possibly be safe?”
“I had to know what he was doing, so yesterday…our visit, I needed him distracted long enough so I could investigate so-”
“So you used me as bait. Is that why you and Robin were gone that long?”
Nancy stood up. “I’m going to ask that you go where I tell you and trust that I’m keeping you safe. When this is all over, I’ll get you and everything will go back to normal.”
“I’m a grown man. I can decide for myself where to go and IF I even go.”
Nancy sighed, rubbing her temples. “Steve, please. Just go. You don’t understand what he’s capable of.” She came over and grabbed one of his hands, using her other to stroke his hair. “Just trust me. I’ll take care of this.”
Steve wished he could say it was the unique situation for Nancy to take total control and basically bulldoze over anything he could say. But it wasn’t. So he knew better than to keep arguing. It was better to just let her have her way. He stood and left his mug on the table, needing some space.
Nancy picked up the phone and dialed a number, her brow still creased. She knew Steve didn’t like this. But it was better for him to be mad at her and still alive than the alternative. She cleared her throat when the line picked up. “Jason? I have a favor to ask.”
----------------------------
Jason was waiting on the steps of the church as Steve and Nancy drove up. He was exuding smugness, something they could feel while they were still in the car. Steve wanted to scream. He wanted to run away. He wanted Nancy to understand how this was the worst place for him now. But there was no changing her mind.
And it wasn’t as if he had a plan in mind. So he got out of the car.
Jason’s arms were open as if expecting a hug. “Welcome, to the both of you. Nancy, I was quite surprised to get your call.”
“Just keep an eye on Steve and no matter what happens, don’t let Munson inside”, Nancy ordered like she owned both Steve and the land the church was on.
“I’ve got no issue keeping undesirables out”, Jason assured her. Then he clapped a hand on Steve’s shoulder.
With him secured, Nancy got into the car and went to that strange, truly haunted house. Robin was already there.
“If he’s truly a vampire, he’ll be vulnerable in the daytime”, Nancy said. “We just need to get him through the heart one time.”
“Oh is that all?”, Robin said as Nancy opened her trunk to reveal a pair of wooden stakes. She had torn them out of their picket fence and sharpened them to deadly points for this mission.
“Let’s kill this bastard.”
“Nancy, wait-”
“Robin, he wants to steal Steve! He wants to erase his memories, you saw that!”
“We saw some spell book open to a page on changing memories but we don’t know if it’s real or if he’s planning on doing that to Steve or what!”
Nancy gave her a long look. “....What aren’t you telling me?”
“How much did you tell Steve?”
“I told him that he needed to stay safe.” Nancy grabbed one of the stakes. “So I set him up with Jason at the church. Hopefully vampires are as affected by religious imagery as the legends say. Munson won’t get to him there.”
Robin swallowed thickly. “Nancy…that was-you’re-! This is just-! I’m not going in there with you and this half-baked plan.”
The offense on Nancy’s face was something Nancy had only seen a couple of times before. She didn’t like being told she was wrong. Still, Robin wouldn’t back down. Everything about this felt off. There was too much they didn’t know. But there was one thing she knew for certain.
“I need to go to Steve. I can’t believe you left him in a church of all places.”
“Robin!”
“Go in there if you want.” Steve needs me. Robin got back into her own car and drove off, one goal in mind.
Nancy was shaken for all but a moment before she took a breath and turned towards the house.

“While we wait for..whatever business Nancy is taking care of, I’d love to chat”, Jason said, sitting next to Steve in one of the pews.
Steve sighed, knowing it was inevitable, but annoyed anyway. He’d spent the last fifteen minutes in the bathroom and he supposed he could only avoid this for so long. He was in Jason’s domain after all. He said nothing though, not in the mood for even the most minimal amount to keep up a polite facade.
Jason didn’t need to hear him respond of course. So he continued. “I don’t know exactly what our newest neighbor has you tangled up in, but I can wager a guess. It was good of you to come here.”
Steve didn’t reply but of course that didn’t deter Jason who droned on and on. Steve supposed it was a necessary skill for the job he had. Still, it went through one ear and right out the other as he contemplated his life up until now. And his previous one as well. Those memories were filled with the kind of joy he thought impossible as well as the depths of despair he never wanted to feel again.
It was all so much. Nearly everyone in Stasia’s life wanted to control her, save for a select few. And the same thing was happening again.
“There was a time when you could just push that kind out of town. Or at least give a sign to show they’re not welcome here. But times have changed. Tolerance and all that. It’ll drag us all down if we’re not vigilant. You don’t have to worry about him now, Steve. You’re safe here.”
Steve thought he heard another person whispering to him. But the voice was his own, he realized. He stood, grabbing a bible from the pew in front of him and striking Jason soundly on the face with it, knocking him to the ground. Jason’s cries of shock and confusion fell on deaf ears. He knew this when he saw the odd glaze over Steve’s eyes.
“I’m not the one in danger”, Steve said before slamming the book down onto his face again, this time drawing blood.
Me purchasing the bat warmie to pretend I’m cuddling with bat!Eddie in bed because I’m totally fine and mentally stable as well as functioning like a perfectly normal adult at this time. No further questions, please.
