What kind of qualities in a girl is Violet attracted to? Assuming she can feel attraction at all 💦

She feels all the emotions anyone else does! She just… keeps them all inside and doesn’t express herself well…

As with something I’ve mentioned before, her clan focuses primarily on a single candidate when it comes to love, so they take a long time to get to know them and bond together (referring again to the whole fighting together thing, nothing breeds more trust than having to rely on someone to keep you alive) before they decide to go for it. So for Violet, any qualities she’d like are ones that show loyalty and trust, even if it takes a while to build. She cares more about how much she can truth them over what their appearance may be (although, some good looks certainly doesn’t hurt, she’s not blind~)

She could even grow to love a pony, despite the racism. It would take more time overcome her own boundaries when it comes to that, but given the right situations it could be done. Mostly you’d have to force her to spend time with them to get over that inherent dislike first.

Being a warrior of any kind also helps. She can respect and relate to someone’s strength in combat

Just curious: How would duels between bat ponies (whether its same clan or a different clan) be determined?

The Iron Blades are the “military” clan out of all of ‘em, so they operate a bit different than the others. Their disputes are settled through honourable one-on-one dueling. Injuries are expected but deaths are carefully prevented… usually.

The other clans have their own ways of settling disputes, varying from agreeing to trades or other terms to simply going to the leader of the clan and requesting their guidance on solving the problem

With Violet being a bat Pony does she have some kind of echolocation ability and does she prefer to work in the night or day or does she have no personal preference on what time she prefers to work

They do not possess any kind of echolocation ability in my headcanon, as they have very clear sight and don’t need it, as well as darkvision to give them a monochrome view at nighttime.

All bats are nocturnal by nature. But they can, and some do, switch their sleep cycle and operate in the daytime. They tend to choose not to though, by preference, as daytime is a bit too warm for their liking anyways.

In Violet’s case, she’s kinda had to take up a semi-day, semi-night activity because of having to work with the others of the party all being diurnal. A sacrifice she’d rather not make but a necessary one. During the off-times between adventures though, she immediately reverts back to being nocturnal until they need to head out again

How does one immerse themselves in the bap culture and make peace with them?

Probably start with the friendliest clan, the Moonrise. Unlike the others, they open to reintegrating and even have a clanhold that acts as a small city with plenty of tourism for ponies to interact with. To anyone else, Hollow Shades acts as any other town, but filled with batponies. In actuality, though, it’s the hub of that clan’s territory. No worries though, visitors are encouraged as they actively try to reintegrate with Equestria. (At least, in my headcanon. Other folks have their own stuff of course but this one is mine~)

The other four clans, on the other hand, you’re probably not going to get along with. The Snowstorms are isolated and will not reveal themselves to the other clans, let alone ponies. The Iron Blades (which Violet is from) will simply shoo you out of their territory with a display of martial prowess. The Cragheart are a bit more available down in the south but that’s a whole other story. Annnnd the Lunars live in a swamp and may or may not be practicing crazy rituals and idolizing a false goddess. Don’t mind them

So how does one aproach a bat-pone with romantic intentions in a culturally correct manner? (If there is one)

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this one before, but I can supplement a quick recap:

Their culture is very different from an Equestrian’s. As such, their romance and relationships are too. They’re fiercely loyal to one individual, but because of that it takes a long time of getting to know each other before they consider the possibility. Want to make sure they’re the right one they want, and all that. In the event they lost their significant other, it’s rare that they find a second one. That’s how wholly dedicated they are to them.

So basically it takes a lot of effort, time, and working with each other before they start to love each other. Work together, fight together, bleed together and wholly devote oneself to each other. That is their way

Violet seems to be lost on a lot of things that are traditional to other cultures outside of her own. What traditions does her own culture employ?

Culture shock is definitely a large play of how she’s handling things. She may have been exposed to pony culture for a year or so, but she’s a practical mare raised in a practical way, a lot of the things that are traditional to others seem like a waste of time and energy to her. She’d rather be working on bettering herself, really. Kinda self-centered like that.

As for her own culture, they’re fairly light on them but they have a few. One tradition they highly respect and covet is that of their historians. Their history is passed down orally, and there is a small group of them whose job it is to preserve their history through story and song. Partially because when you live in a cave, you can’t really keep books. It’s kinda musty in there

A second tradition they have is related to their ancestors. Similar to above, it’s about remembering those who came before. Being the practical sort, when they pass the deceased are stripped of anything useful and then burned on pyres rather than buried, their ashes scattered to the winds. They have a night they call Bonfire Eve where they light a massive bonfire and honour their ancestors with music, stories and dancing a particular step around the flames.

Do warrior bats accept duel requests?

Yes and no? Kinda?

They’re willing to spar if they find the other to be a worthy opponent to test their skills. But if they know that the other guy is like way below their level that it’s not even a fair contest, they won’t accept. So like a headstrong youngin’ who thinks they’re better than everybody they’re not even bother with. Their goal is improve themselves through training and experience, not to entertain wild notions.

However, they also have a concept I have dubbed acies honoris. Roughly translated as “battle of honour” or similar (latin is hard and I don’t know it, I just based a few of their phrases off it so somebody might get mad at me maybe), if their sense of honour is insulted they can request a duel of someone else. A one-on-one challenge of trial by combat. To refuse would be to forsake your own honour for being too cowardly to fight them for what they deem to be justice.

Doesn’t happen too often, but if there’s major disagreements it’s not too crazy to have them sort it out by slicing at each other until one of ‘em gives up.
