I had to write some Tops & Flops for a topic of my choosing for the newspaper and because @xgirlsjustwannahavefunx prompted it I chose “Actors to play Bruce Wayne”. Now look, usually those articles are literally just one-word rankings but I just couldn’t shut up. So I’mma share some of my thoughts with y’all:
Richard Madden. Look, I don’t know the dude, no idea who he played and how he played them, but I think he could be an aesthetic fit, if styled correctly. I only saw an article with the same topic at some point mentioning him, so I googled and thought yeah, okay.
Riz Ahmed. He plays serious characters so, so well, and if I trust the Venom gifsets I’ve seen (because I still haven’t watched it), he can also have a twisted, dark side to them. They’re complex, just like Bruce should be. Also, I want a PoC Batman just because.
Idris Elba. Whom the hell can’t he play?
Robert Pattinson. Before you yell at me: Consider it. What did Twilight tell us? Rob can pull of the broody good guy. And other movies showed that he can play a range of different characters, so I’m positive he could pull off Bruce. Also, thinking realistically, it would widen the target group because all the Twilight-fans and middle-aged women who developed crushes on him years ago will go see him as a bat.
David Mazouz. The solo movie is supposed to be a younger Batman and if David proved one thing in his run on Gotham, then it’s that he’s great at that. I love him as Bruce, sue me. Also, I’ve already mentioned it before but in my head, all the post-2000-Batmans are the same character at different times of his life. So, basically, David’s Bruce is a younger version of Batfleck for me either way. It fits!
Armie Hammer. Look, I’ve been in the DC fandom for a while. I’ve seen all the edits where he was Hal Jordan and I’m not willing to give up that idea. It just doesn’t work with my brain. Also, given his casting in Call Me By Your Name, I think it would only encourage people to ship him with any of the Batkids, and that’s a huge no-go for me.
Dylan O’Brien. Dylan’s a freaking superb actor, that’s without contest. Still, I don’t think he’d be a great Bruce, to be honest. I can’t really say why because in The Maze Runner he proved he can leave behind his baby-face and look damn serious, but... I still see it. Plus, he’s not conventionally attractive enough to play Bruce (though he is damn pretty).
Noah Centineo. I’ve kind of envisioned him as Jason ever since I first saw him, truth be told. Which is weird because when I first considered him as the role of Bruce I went “Damn, those Chick Flicks really stripped that seriousness off him” because I just couldn’t make it fit. So yeah, the point stands, even though, technically, the same should go for my casting him as Jason. My brain is weird like that.
Nicholas Hoult. He looks too happy! Also, Marvel could still use him plenty for the X-Men-Franchise, so it wouldn’t make sense if he were cast as one of the biggest DC characters, if you ask me. How the hell are people thinking it could be him?
