Batman: Arkham City = Whoa.... Just, Whoa...

So as I sat at my desk during my peaceful work hours, I kept thinking to myself, what the hell can I say about Arkham City that hasn't been said yet??

The only answer I ever came up with was, not too much, but I'm going to talk about it anyways, because there were SOME things I found a lot more enjoyable than just the game itself.

First off, let me just say that the game and the storyline were awe-inspiring. If you thought the writers were dead on about the Batman and foes in Arkham Asylum, then wait until you play Arkham City. Of course we have the reappearances of some of our favorite villains, but we also have the arrival of a TON of new villains and even some questionable allies in the game as well.

I want to say which ones because when I saw them in game, I got giddy! But I won't spoil anything.

Rocksteady really captured the cruelty of a lot of the Villains in the game and to be honest, not just the the main villains but also the Arkham City inmates as well. Penguin and Mr. Freeze whom are often made to look silly or just thrown aside as smaller characters in the batman universe (the Penguin more than Mr. Freeze in this case) had larger roles in this game and it was very enjoyable to play through them. To be honest, Penguin seemed to be the most fucked up/cruelest villain of them all, and it's about damn time someone made him this way too. The Joker, I just can't see the Joker as cruel, because he always has a plan for the things he does, although that plan ends up killing, it always includes Batman, as opposed to the other Villains like Two-Face and Penguin, whom just enjoy the thrill of murder and such.

The story alone was amazing and I seriously laughed at myself for NOT figuring out certain parts!!! It was so obvious upon the revealing ending. Kudos to the ninja writers. The actual Arkham city is massive and probably even double or triple the size of the Asylum. There's just TONS to do and explore and besides the normal time to beat the game I have invested, I can see myself doing all the side missions and Riddler puzzles and racking up numerous more hours playing. This game actually caused me to delay my start of Skyrim. Hard to believe, but true.

Okay, now that we have pushed the story and such aside I wanted to talk a bit about the characters in the game. Yes, Batman is the main bad ass, hell, he is the armored/gadget laden, billionaire industrialist, modern day ninja and as fun as it was playing him throughout the whole game, I have to say, I had more fun doing the Riddler challenges with Nightwing than playing as Batman. <--- Long winded, I know.

Blasphemy? Maybe so, but I've always been a fanboy of the Nightwing and I had to buy the Nightwing add-on once I saw that it was available. I do not regret it because Nightwing was made to look slick and his abilites and weapons are just as amazing as Batman's own. Actually, I liked them a bit more than Batman's. He has goddamn shock sticks!

The Riddler challenges are actually quite hard sometimes and although I haven't unlocked them all or played them all, those that I have, have been very enjoyable. BTW, there are TONS of Riddler trophies to find. So if you're a trophy hunter in games, Batman: AC is going to give you a run for your money. Unless you use a guide or something.

Now, I thought I should mention that there were several parts of the game that made me squee out loud. That's how excited I was about them when they occurred.

The first, was how fucking smooth and fast Catwoman is in combat. Rocksteady Studios REALLY did their homework with this game. I rarely, if EVER got hit while playing as Catwoman. Unless I failed at being stealthy. Which did happen a few times. I'm kind of terrible at console games.

The second was Robin! Robin actually looked fucking cool, and I have to say, the only other media outlet that has ever been able to do that was the Teen Titans cartoon. I REALLY look forward to the Robin DLC on the 22nd of this month. Normally I'd never say that, but that is how much this game has changed my opinion about the Robin character.

My last squee moment, well it's actually two moments, involved two characters I would have never expected to see in the game. Now I do not want spoil anything, but both are Villains and one was once a hero (for a short time in the comics). When I saw these characters, even the shadow that they cast as they were foreboded in the game, I got uber excited.

I found this gem on a Youtube channel, I like the Oracle idea, tbh.

Another fun thing about this game is that you can play as different era characters in the challenges. For example, the old Dark Knight Skin (Fatman), the anime version of Nightwing and even the old Catwoman outfit and the Long Halloween outfit. There are others I am skipping intentionally so you can explore them yourself, but I thought that that was a very cool little addition in the game.

So as I found myself somewhat 'meh' from reading all the other reviews before the actual game release, saying how the game was a 10/10 and most amazing game ever! ZOMG! WTFBBQ! I'd have to say, that for its genre, its playstyle, its aesthetics, and its content, this game is a 10/10, it is amazing, it is beautiful, and it is addictive. Yeah, it's 60 bucks, but the amount of content that you are given and the time it takes to complete and do everything in the game, seems like money well spent to me.

I recommend trying Batman: Arkham City out. If you find you do not like it or even one small part of the game... then there's seriously something wrong with you.

I mean damn... you get to be Batman again. I thought everyone liked that idea.

So do yourself a favor, head over to Steam and preorder your Batman: Arkham City copy now. Not a PC gamer, fine, go to Amazon and get it there. PS3 or Xbox 360. Man.... I wish I would have gotten the Collector's edition now that I think about it.
