This is a portrait of an English aristocrat painted by Pompeo Batoni. He specialized in portraits of wealthy men and women who travelled to Rome to learn firsthand about the works of art of Antiquity. The statue and vase behind him are actually very well-known works from Antiquity, the Ludovisi Mars, and the Medici Vase.
