Hiii do you like bats? (I couldn’t tell from your intro post lol)
My favorite kind of bat is a tricolored bat. They are so small and cute, and I can see them where I live. And they cary rabies and they are kind of responsible for most of the rabies cases in the US, so I probably shouldn’t go outside to watch them at night, but it’s fun. But rabies isn’t even that common so I think I’m fine. I think like 15 people died to this kind of rabies in 50 years or something so yeah. And scientists named it after a different bat from Europe, and that stayed for like 100 years, and then in the 1980’s they were like “wait actually we were wrong about this guy.” Also it’s a micro bat so they are really small (think I said that already).
I am also kind of scared of Fruit Bats. They are so big. I still love them though. Also they don’t live anywhere near me, so I think I’m fine. They are still really pretty though and pretty much harmless.
A bunch of my friends are really scared of bats (rabies mostly, the fact that they are wild animals who will probably attack if you do get close, the stories of vampires kinda(like blood drinking)) but yeah I love them so much. Our school had a bat problem a bit ago (it was mostly before school started, but I’m in ambassadors so I was giving tours to the new students) and we found a little brown bat in the window. And everyone got really scared, so we had to like pause the tour and move to a different area. And I wasn’t allowed to look at the bag more :(. And currently there is just a bat chilling above our stage. I’m also in like every club/class in our school that uses the stage to perform (band, Chior, dramatics, musical theatre) so I’m there almost every day. Every teacher has to remind us that the bat is up there and we have to continue performing if it swoops us. I’ve personally only seen it a handful of times, but I’m pretty sure it is also a little brown bat. The band named him Walden, and the dramatics club has a name for him too but I kind of forgot it.
So yeah… bats :D

The bat they named these guys after was a pipistrelle rightt, they're so cute too!! And yeah some bats carry rabies which is a bummer.. funnily enough, only very few of them do carry rabies so I guess you just got unlucky 😭😭
I have never seen a bat irl actually I'm so jealous rn!!!! As long as you maintain a distance you should be fine, it's pretty cool to watch animals just doing stuff and especially at night agahhg I wish there were bats where I live..
In my city there aren't any at least, but apparently across the country there are like a ton of different species aaa there's even some tricolored ones (Glyphonycteris sylvestris, "Murciélago tricoloreado" in spanish) but like I said they're nowhere near me
My fav from here is probably the uhh idk the names in english but the Chrotopterus auritus "Falso vampiro orejón" (direct translation is long-eared fake vampire but I'm not sure about the actual english name!), they're mainly up in the north of Argentina (my country) like most bats here and they're called that bc they're confused a lot with vampire bats (I believe we also have the actual common vampire bat + the white-winged one)

THESE ONES, they're Macrophyllum macrophyllum "Murciélago patas largas" (direct translation is long-legged bat!), there's like zero info about them online istg. They're not the same as the long-legged bats from like the US or Canada, but most info about "long-legged bats" is always of the North American species agahh
But anyway they're so ugly (/pos) I LOVE THEMMM, the leaf-shaped noses are so cute to me
About fruit bats we don't have any here either I believe but for a bit they were kinda popular online (in spanish-speaking videos/posts I mean!), we just generally find them cute or make fun of how the adult ones look 😭 I've heard ppl call them "winged puppies" (perritos con alas) and we really just have a ton of videos of them eating fruit around
(And sidenote but in spanish "perrito" means little dog, while "cachorro" means pup, so we're calling them perritos as a reference to how they look like actual dogs, not how they're baby bats!!)
I personally like them but bc they're so popular online I don't tend to use their pics 😭😭 Like I love them, but there's sm ppl saying they love bats when they're only talking about baby fruit bats and no other species, it pisses me off a little aa
Like I saidd on my city there aren't any bats as far as I know so they aren't mentioned at all aggh. Currently I'm homeschooling for #reasons but ambassadors and like student councils (we only have that one I think, school staff members were the ones who showed me around when I switched to a new school personally, but who knows!) are so cool AAA, I wish the ppl you were touring hadn't gotten scared of that bat 💔💔

This is getting long so I'm sorry if I'm yapping too much but I also wanted to say that I started liking bats bc of a song! Bats by Scary Bitches, it's a (deathrock/goth) band mainly from the 2000s and it's my fav rn so I mention them every chance I get lmao 😭
OH AND ALSO fun fact my actual like srs signature is a bat (I was gonna show it but privacy and stuff so yeah blehh 💔💔)
But uh yeah.... I don't really like bats. I kinda hate them tbh... rats are so gross too ughhh.. they're definitely not my two favorite animals WHAT
