Batscar is what cats mean when they say someone survived by the grace of the gods.
He was initially a soldier by the name of Batstrike. He was renowned for his stealth and the way he came off as semi-disturbing even to his closest friends. However, a few years back, Batstrike came across a giant cat—and I don't mean a particularly large domestic cat, I mean a feline version of the many giants that populate Greek myth. Batstrike had to distract this giant from devouring a patrol of young apprentices and paid dearly for it.
It was with Oliveflight's care and Bushbranch's surgical skill that Batstrike survived, although severely scarred. Bonefreckle oversaw a ritual to formally change Batstrike's suffix in the eyes of the gods, and he became Batscar. He has too many physical issues like chronic pain to be a soldier, so he became a hearthkeeper, responsible for managing affairs within the city itself.
