“Transient” is defined as “lasting for only a short time; impermanent,” and this is what makes the word a perfect title for Battleghost’s latest EP. The group of pop punkers reflects the fleeting feeling of youth and maturity in the lyrics of Stateless [streaming below], “I’m stateless, blank stares are all I can do for today / I’m trying so hard to stay awake, I’m nameless.” The Richmond outfit oozes 90s/early 00s vibes and is definitely worth the listen – these guys have the potential to really take off. Transient is not perfect but the potential is there; Battleghost could be great. I see a future full of stage dives and mic grabs, a mob of kids passionately singing along to this rough-around-the-edges act from Virginia. They’re a band worth keeping an eye on in the years to come, as bands like Man Overboard, State Champs, and Handguns pave the way for a new generation of pop punk.
