The USS New Jersey, BB62, or Big J, as she is called, earned more battle stars for combat actions than the other three completed Iowa-class battleships, and is the only U.S. #battleship to provide gunfire support during the Vietnam War. Plans for her began in 1938 and she was commissioned May 23, 1943. She was constructed in Philadelphia and at a length of 887.7 feet, is the longest battleship ever constructed, by 4 inches.
