Normally Saturdays are quiet, but we have one US church brigade on campus and are preparing for another with 81 individuals ... and then Timoteo arrived with three from the Diamante Church who wanted to be baptized. The two mothers had children who were in the clinic’s nutrition program last year. A Sentimental Day at Diamante. Two years ago today we worshiped with the Diamante Church. Since that time many of you have visited this congregation conducting medical brigades, children’s activities, a ladies’ day, baptizing individuals, and getting to know the dear Christians there. They continue struggle in a somewhat hostile environment with no electricity or running water. La Abuela. “Grandma” was at the Diamante Church last Sunday; she’s been there every time we’ve visited since the church began 4 years ago. She walks two hours to get there each time. Last week I encouraged my preaching class to use positive examples in their sermons and I mentioned “La Abuela.” The example of the widow who “gave all she had,” two mites, is illustrated in her, Mark 12:42-44. I then asked the class: “why did Mark of all the things happening in Jesus’ last week choose to narrate the widow’s story?” Answer: “He is looking forward just two or three days when Jesus will give all he had ... every drop of blood for our salvation.” #baxterinspiration #baxterdiamantechurch (at Tegucigalpa, Honduras)
Day Two & Three With God in Front of Us. God directed our way to hard work on campus, excellent medical care at Breaking Chains, and an unforgettable worship with His precious people at the Diamante Church. Diamante Church Back Story - Part 2. Pedro Flores with his four boys greeted me with big smiles this past Sunday. One year ago, March 13, 2016, Pedro began to weep after I finished my sermon. He stated that he wanted to be baptize. Since there is no running water in this community, I immersed him in a barrel. It was wonderful to preach and see him present in the service and later pray this past Sunday. He told me that when his son (bright green shirt) was born 9 years ago without a lung, the doctors told he would not live 2 weeks. He then begged God to spare him and he would give his life to Him. Seven years later the church was planted in his community, he began to study and was baptized. Life is not easy for him; his wife left him and the 4 boys and moved to Guatemala. For a living Pedro shines shoes in the airport. All the same there he was, all smiles praising God. #baxterdiamantechurch #baxterbarrelbaptism
Diamante Church Back Story. Fredy and Krician are members at Diamante; their two year old daughter, Arleth, entered the clinic's nutrition program weighing only 10 pounds. She doubled her weight and quickly grew taller. At the same time Krician entered in the cosmetology class and appreciates that training. She, however, is unable to style hair because there is no running water and no electricity at Diamante. Fredy, Krician, her mother, and brother were some of the first converts at this church plant. For 9 months Fredy has work as a grounds man at the clinic. Krician actively serves as a Sunday School teacher and attended recently two workshops.
