On the Frontline Again! Dr. Erazo and the clinic staff recently went to the impoverished Izopo community. The quarantine makes it impossible for them to travel to clinic, so our clinic team took the initiative and the risk to go to them. They provided food and assessments of malnourished children in the Nutrition Program. 8 of the 12 kids showed weight gain. At the same time they gave direction for the moms in the cosmetology and sewing classes. Medical attention and meds were provided for asthma, hypertension, and diarrheas. Last Tuesday, forty-nine of the children who are part of Baxter’s nutrition program came to the clinic for their quarterly checkup where they check the child’s height, weight, etc. They began the morning in a devotional, then the Nutrition students from the university helped evaluate the children and the doctors /Med students did a brief medical evaluation. Later, the nutrition program lead, Eistey, gave instructions in nutrition and health, and the morning ended with a demonstration of how to eat a nutritious meal. After graduating on Friday, these mothers of children in the nutrition program were gifted with sewing machines. They completed 12 months of sewing classes. The women sewed these skirts and blouses for graduation. These are treadle sewing machines which they prefer. Normally Saturdays are quiet, but we have one US church brigade on campus and are preparing for another with 81 individuals ... and then Timoteo arrived with three from the Diamante Church who wanted to be baptized. The two mothers had children who were in the clinic’s nutrition program last year. Thank You ... Christians across America, Servants at Healing Hands and Mission Lazarus, Baxter graduate Richard and Yesenia Ayala, Baxter’s Eistey Mejia, and Supporters of Baxter’s Nutrition Program. Christians filled boxes and got them to Healing Hands. HHI then organized them and loaded them on to containers; the Magi boxes arrived in Honduras this fall; Mission Lazarus coordinated the distribution; Richard Ayala picked up boxes for this area and brought them to Baxter December 5; January 17 our Eistey Mejia gave the boxes to the malnourished children in our Nutrition Program. Precious Souls - Special Moments. The clinic was buzzing with activity for the moms and their children in the nutrition program. Both the sewing and beautician classrooms have had their own renovation. It was complete with new mirrors, sinks, and styling chairs in the beautician classroom and with tables, shelving, and supplies in the sewing classroom. The moms in the sewing class were given their first peek at the treadle sewing machines that will be theirs once they complete their 12 months training.
