While there are many cases of cops illegally interfering with the right to record, I have never seen a case as blatant as by this Houston cop. Quick refresher on the law, cops cannot demand ID of someone unless they ar suspected of a crime. In Texas, one has to be arrested before someone has to prove ID or give their name. This Houston cop asks a person legally protesting for ID. Unless you are driving a car, you aren't required to carry it on you, because, we aren't a Police State. Or we shouldn't be, at least.  The cop never asks for the man's name but arrests him for failure to ID, simply because the man didn't have ID!!!! Lastly, the cop states on the video that he is going to delete the video, which thankfully wasn't deleted in the end. Now, I understand cops are unaccountable and this cop is probably now a Captain or whatever, but at some point, cops have to be fired.

Picking the perfect vacation home can be an overwhelming experience. Even if you know the general area you want to be in, oftentimes there are still a seemingly endless number of options of homes and communities to choose from. Really familairze yourself with the area. Vacationing in an area once or twice really isn’t enough to know if you want to buy a beach home there. Schools might be back in session, but that doesn’t mean summer is completely over, at least, not for our residents at Bay Forest!  With the temperatures still well into the ‘shorts & flip-flops’ range, plenty of beach goers continue to enjoy the sand and surf of nearby Bethany Beach.

And with the beach crowds tapering off, this is a great time to catch up on your summer reading.  Here are a few of the season’s up-and-coming and most popular reads!

1. Burnt Toast Makes You Sing Good: A Memoir of Food and Love from an American Midwest Family, by Kathleen Flinn

Who would have thought that a story about home cooking could have such an impact? This book is highly nostalgic for most readers because they’re able to reflect on what home-cooked meals were shared on what holidays, or on any day. This book is heartwarming as it connects food and home, bringing the family together in the kitchen opposed to seeing the family separate to spend time on the Internet. With its Swedish pancakes, oven-fried chicken, cinnamon rolls, and focus on family, this book is likely to satisfy any reading appetite.

2. We Are Not Ourselves, by Matthew Thomas

Through hardship, love, and the goal of the ultimate American dream, this book asks readers to look within themselves to recognize what’s really important in life.  Following the story of three generations of an Irish-American family, NYTimes.com promises it’s “one of the best novels you’ll read this year.”

3. The Islands At The End Of The World, by Austin Aslan

If you’ve been searching for a truly captivating book, this is it.  Based in Hawaii, this book tells the story of a father and daughter determined to make it back home after tragedy strikes.  The Islands At The End Of The World is harrowing at times, beautiful at others!

4. The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon, by David Grann

Percy Fawcett was hell-bent on finding El Dorado, or Z, back in the 1920s. He was so certain it existed that he risked his own life as well as many others in order to find it. During his search, he had to contend with deadly obstacles, lack of supplies and threatening enemies. Does Fawcett find Z? Does he even make it out of the Amazon alive?  This book will keep you on the edge of your seat!

5. Twisted Sick, by Tyler Nals

Not to worry - the title is misleading! This highly-rated book is a compilation of short stories that makes the Twilight Zone look boring. It features everything from humor to drama to a little horror.  This is a thinking person’s book as every story leads the reader down one path, then ends up down a path that the reader could never have possibly thought existed.
