gift of urpihua-chac, incan god of fish and fishery

sophomore

obsessed with fish. talks about them constantly.

he has a goldfish in his room named cousteau. he’s had the fish since he started at EA.

he spends a lot of his free time sitting in water (there’s an above ground pool at his family’s house in cherry). he can be underwater without air for up to ten hours. he usually just sits down there and reads marine biology books (his mom bought a heavy duty laminator so she could make photocopies of his books to read underwater)

if he doesn’t spend enough time in water every day, he has trouble breathing, his skin dries out really bad, and he’s extremely physical drained.

pretty much any time he’s been out of water for more than a couple hours, he gets a really bad cough.

he carries around a walkman and these thick noise cancelling headphones. he listens to the same cassette with ocean sounds all day.

he looks a lot older than he is. even though he’s only fifteen, he grows significant facial hair and he’s six feet tall. people mistake him for a senior a lot.

people honestly think he’s kinda scary-looking - he can blame it on his size and rather intense mug.

bb is his step-sister; his mom is married to her dad

his mom is yessica “yesi” gutierrez. she has the gift of urcaguary, incan god of jewels. she went to EA in the 90s. she dated malik, bb’s dad, for three years before they graduated. they broke up when yesi moved to peru.

guillermo was born in peru. he and his mom moved back to cherry after he was diagnosed with autism when he was four. his dad, aureliano chavez, didn’t come with them. aureliano and yesi were never married. they don’t keep in contact with him save for birthday/christmas gifts. 

he and bb are really close. bb is very protective of him.

their parents live in cherry. they usually go home on the weekends. 

their parents married when they were both ten.

bb’s full name is now habibi bennett

gift of amala, native american haida god of strength 

her dad malik has the gift of mujaji, a lovedu rain god. her mom tasha had the gift of kaiti, the haida bear god. she died when bb was seven.

born and raised in cherry

she wears her hair in braids pretty much always. malik usually does them for her.

she starts dreading them her senior year

bb is also a sophomore. she and guillermo are the same age. guillermo is three months older.

if she’s not in her uniform, she’s almost always in sweatpants/gym shorts/sweatshirts. unless she’s going on a date or too a party - in that case fun pattern button downs are a must.

she loves pretty much any form of martial arts - she likes wrestling and judo the most. 

she also follows sports intensely. always participates in fantasy teams.

insanely huge and perfectly organized comic collection in her room at home. it’s funny how organized it is because she’s otherwise a terrible slob.

also collects action figures. all about that mint-status.

she uses ebay a lot. a lot a lot. but they don’t ship to cherry so she has a P.O. box in the closest town..

bb: I just forget stuff like a cool person.

EA + historical medieval au???? I'm revisiting a few WIPs of this myself 😍

dash hates hates hates being prince and when his dad dies he’s a very reluctant king. he mopes during the whole coronation.

he also fights with the war council all the time because he just doesn’t get why they’re at war in the first place. 

roman is shocked when she starts writing dash and he says he wants peace as soon as possible. king charles is pretty much just a huge warmonger so she wasn’t expecting his heir to be such a pacifist. 

after they get married they travel around europe encouraging peace and diplomacy with other nations #powercouple

jack is dash’s aid and he haaaaaates roman. she hates him back. it’s pretty hilarious.

bb is the first female knight in england, knighted by dash pretty much as soon after his coronation and appointed as a personal guard to the king. she grew up in the palace as the daughter of one of charles’ knights and she and dash are very good friends.

28. How quick or slow is your character to resort to physical violence in a confrontation?

about nine out of ten times, bb won’t throw the first punch. she’s big talk, but she won’t actually attack someone who doesn’t attack first. she’s a very principled person, though the exception to this rule is if someone is being cruel (not physically) and refuses to stop, then bb will hit them.

44. How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it?

bb loves big, and when she loves she’s more than ready to show it. she’s likely the first person to say the l word in any relationship she’s in. this affection is extended to her close friends as well. consciously saying it without meaning it would be something very hard for bb to do, though it’s possible she could say i love you thinking she means it when she probably doesn’t.

23. What does your character dislike in other people?

emma very much dislikes being around people she perceives as being boring - the kind of people who don’t see the point in silliness, spontaneity, and weirdness. she dislikes strict, stuck-up people who never take risks and worry too much about the rules and what people expect of them. also the type of people who are spineless. she respects a person who stands up for themself; seeing people bend over to authority irritates her.

33. In the face of criticism, is your character defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve?

emma isn’t threatened by criticism, and depending on the content of the criticism she may either accept it and use it or rather just brush it off. she doesn’t typically care too much about what people think of her. if someone tells her they don’t like something she does and she should do it this way, more often than not she’ll just ignore it - emma is who she is. that said, some criticism she enjoys and uses to make whatever she’s trying to do better.

16. Which does your character idealize most: happiness or success?

failure is jess’s biggest fear; they’re constantly re-thinking and theorizing in their own head over and over again out of worries that they’ve missed something and screwed up somehow. jess’s concept of self-worth practically hinges on their ability to think, understand concepts, and come up with new ideas. this is what makes jess happy. it’s what they strive for most. success to them is less important; the amount of money or power they had was never something they worried much about. 

20. In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?

jess is very critical of themselves, always pushing themselves to go faster and do better. they’re objectively a very intelligent person, but they continue to downplay their development as not as good as they could be. but in terms of comparing themselves to others, they rarely doubt themselves and their worth. jess kind of views themselves in their head as separate from others - not necessarily better than other people but more that they’re simply not interested. they live more within their own head and their own plane of existence.

extracurriculars

dash

pitches for the baseball team and takes it very very seriously. but also the team mom.

waits at the soda parlor on the weekends and is very good at turning up his charm and getting some good tips. he’s such a Good Boy the cherry people eat him up

joins the comic club his senior year bc roman makes him. everyone makes fun of him because he’s read like maybe three spiderman comics and that’s it. talks about pokemon a lot and no one appreciates it.

plays football. defensive tackle.

and also ice hockey. defensemen.

and lacrosse. goalie.

and if she can make the time soccer. also goalie.

she loves sports. she lives in the weight room. 

does inventory at the hardware store because she can lift more than any other employee there

member of the comic club. provides the snacks and usually eats all the snacks. also she yells a lot and usually ends up lifting the table at some point.

also goes to a look of cooking club meetings bc she’s out of food and needs second dinner

joins the book club to impress tammy but she actually hates it so much and stops going once they’ve been dating like six months

she tried to make a fight club but she got caught and given detention

plays defense on the soccer team but he doesn’t really like it that much

in the chess club and the robotics club

otter convinces him to get a job so he works in the school store like one day a week

jack

says sports are stupid but plays lacrosse because he says its the only cool one. he’s one of the smallest guys on the team but somehow the most violent. ejected from so many games. he’s an attacker.

had a job at four different places in town but got fired from all of them so now he just borrows money from graham and vaughn and never pays them back

im a dweeb for royalty/late middle ages-early modern period fantasy shit so bringing it back lowkey (read: highkey)

dash is the crown prince of england, which is at war with roman’s italy the king doesn’t let him do anything to protect him from being killed. dash sits day by day bored in the palace until his father is killed, making him king much sooner than anticipated.

jack is a son of a very prominent noble family in ireland. he’s the disappointment of the family, so he basically just travels around britain being a nuisance (but nevertheless part of a noble family and very wealthy). he comes to the palace a lot and when dash becomes king, he takes jack on as an aid.

bb is a knight, but not totally sure on the rest of the details
