Our trip to HITN was very exciting and informative. The presentation was organized and well-prepared beforehand, so naturally we had many questions. We had so many questions, however, that we barely had any time for the walk-around. Overall, it provided a glimpse into what is on the other side of television.

Teen Innovators Introduction

This historically based program at the Brooklyn Navy Yard offers teens like us the opportunity to expand our knowledge about the Navy Yard and the history of Brooklyn. We have already visited various historical buildings such as building 77 which was used during world war 2, the building is historical because it was used as a housing for plans and it was designed uniquely as it lacked windows to avoid the plans leaking. We also got a chance to visit the abandoned Captains quarters from world war 2.

During my tenure at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, I have met many new people and experienced so many things. I enjoyed all our site visits. It was a great experience. I hope to be working I’m the Navy Yard in the future.

Thank you very much. What I’ve learned in the Brooklyn Navy Yard has opened me up to a new perceptive.I also appreciate the warmth that you have given me as well as the snack and drinks. Intentionally, we tried to prove that we deserve a job (internship), but along line we spent in this amazing (program)we marinated ourselves into the real world so much that we have drifted away from our original intentions.

My experiences at the Navy Yard throughout these whole like two months has been truly a blast. Everyday spent there was a new adventure for me. I was very fascinated by all the sight visits we to throughout the Yard it self, and I was able to get good amounts of work done while having laughs with my friends. Also to mention, our two mentors that were here each and everyday were amazing. They helped us with our works and also gave us really good advice on our everyday choices in life. The Navy Yard experience has truly help to better me as a person like to strive for what I want and not let people get in my way.

Spending the last 2 months at the Brooklyn Navy Yard was a unique experience. Whether we explored sustainability, the Navy Yard’s history, or the different companies at the Yard, I always expanded my knowledge everyday working as a Teen Innovator. Being with my peers and our program leaders every Tuesday and Wednesday was something I always looked forward to. Although we’ll reunite in January, I can truly say that I found a family at the Navy Yard. I hope that the program grows exponentially and that our successors will have more opportunities than we had. I truly believe that the Brooklyn Navy was my home away from home and I hope to return soon!

Thanks to Teen Innovators and the Brooklyn Navy, I believe I now have a better understanding of what the real world will entail. Visiting new places, interacting with businesses and its employees, as well as working together with people I do not know to create an informative and polished product will help me once I join the work force. Presenting a research project to several high-ranking employees of a company was both a nerve racking and an incredible experience. They had tons of valuable advice to give, which actually gave me some insight into a future occupation. I am grateful to everyone that has been a part of this amazing experience.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a wonderful place. In my time there I have learned so much. Going into the Teen Innovators program I did not know what to expect. I didn’t think that I’d come out of it knowing more about my country’s history than I previously did. It is amazing how close I was to such a huge part of Brooklyn’s history and yet I had never even heard of the Navy Yard. The Teen Innovators program has showed me how people can come together to help build things and make then grow. I had a lot of fun on our sight visits; exploring new things and learning so much. I’ve also had a wonderful time meeting new people and going along this journey with them. I want to thank those that made this experience possible for me and my peers; and who also were great leaders for us to work under. Thank you Mrs. Shirley, Ms. Lita, and Mrs. Person-Cook for being with us. I’d also like to thank the staff of the Navy Yard who came to talk to us and give us wonderful advice and the staff of the companies we visited for showing us more career options.
