I've been in the Teen Innovators program for 2 years and I must say this program has really shaped me into a better person. I was able to learn about the rich & interesting history of the Brooklyn Navy Yard . This program has definitely had a major impact on me . I had the chance to get an internship for the two years I've been in the program which was awesome. I was also able to be a mentor my second year, mentoring other kids about the Brooklyn Navy Yard . With the paid internship at the end I learn professional skills that I can use about anywhere! I will miss being apart of the Teen Innovators as I will be going off to college but one thing I do hope is that it grows for other teens to experience an internship filled with fun and a foundation of learning. I will definitely recommend this program to any teen looking to be part of a family that helps create successful people of the future.

Informational Interview: Law
My interview with Mr. Pellegrino was not only quite informative, but was also a rewarding experience. Marc Pellegrino deals with technology and digital media companies. His job is primarily to make and review several different kinds of contracts for his clients. In college, he majored in music and minored in business and journalism. He has also taken up a variety of internships during his college career. For example, he did an internship at a nonprofit organization that matched attorneys that were willing to provide pro bono services to artists. During the interview, I learned many interesting things about being a legal professional. For instance, the fact that every lawyer’s day-to-day routine is different was heavily emphasized. While many people think working in an office cannot be enjoyable, lawyers are able to make the most out of the legal niches they have. Thanks to Mr. Pellegrino, I learned the advantages and disadvantages to working in small and large firms. I was also told to try and get into the biggest firm that is willing to hire me, then using their name as leverage to get into any smaller firm I want. Most importantly, Mr. Pellegrino relayed to me three things I should look out for when deciding on which job to take: if it pays well, if it advances my career, and if it’s fun. If a position meets two of the three aforementioned criteria, then I should take it. - Alex Walters
Informational Interview: Social Worker
My informational interview was on my cousin Tylah Milo who is a foster care planner at Mercyfirst foster care agency. She has received her Bachelors degree in Social Work and loves what she does. She became first interested in the field because she was a foster child with a great foster mother and case planner. She wants to give the same help that she reviewed to other foster children. In her day she revivers a caseload between 10-12 children and has to monitor them in foster homes. As well as that she also helps families get their children back. She works in a very diverse environment filled with different cultures and personalities which can be a positive and a negative. She deals with so many different people a day she has to approach each one differently and be mindful of their background. During my interview I could tell that she really loves what she does and how amazing it is to be in that field. She only made it more clear that this is something I want to do in the future.

Information Interview: Taft Watson, part B
Taft Watson owns an Information Technology company and works as a computer consulter. The factors that led to him working as an owner of I.T is the fact that when he was young, he used to work at Chase bank. While he was working at chase bank, he realized that he would best fit in being a computer consulter since he worked with their computers. Mr. Watson loves his career in terms of work and social wise. As an owner, he likes to help people having network issues, helping them switch their routers to upgrade for their changing networks and so on. Taft likes to meet a lot of customers and help them as well. On the other hand, Taft doesn’t have a set schedule. Most of the time, he is available to all clients all over the world 24/7, and he can hold conference calls at any time. He schedule meetings in different countries like Hong Kong, Japan, and so on. In summation, Taft Watson enjoys his career and also likes to help people receive the help they need in order to enjoy their new service. - Kent Daniels
Informational Interview: Deborah Gregory, Cheetahlicious
When it comes to the field of writing, there's a plethora of different fields one can partake in. Journalism, academic writing, creative writing, and columnists are just few out of the many. I find writing so intriguing because of the very idea that; one's piece of writing can influence the lives of many. Which is why I was so pleased to receive Ms.Gregory for my informational interview, she did the absolute same for me.
Deborah Gregory is from Brooklyn, NY and is the author of, "The Cheetah Girls" series. When asked the question of how her life imitates her work, she states that just as the character Dorinda, she herself was raised in foster care. She also talks about her being multicultural. Which is why when it comes to the Cheetah Girls, we see a variety in ethnicity take place. Ms.Gregory than says that, "she comes from a place of disadvantage" very much so like her characters as well. This question led to the follow up question, "Which Cheetah Girl is most like you?." Ms.Gregory says that when it comes to your characters, "Several of them will have parts of you." Galleria, shows her leader side, very determined with great leadership. Dorinda, as said before, reflects her time as a foster child. And Galleria's mother, Dorothea, shows her side in fashion. Ms.Gregory has modeled oversees in Europe and has a A.A.S degree from FIT. As all know, the Cheetah Girls was turned into a hit movie when picked up by Disney . . . Ms.Gregory says that she is very pleased with the way it came out and the success of the movie. "And finally, my last question was what advice do you have for writers in general ?" Ms.Gregory starts off with "Make sure you have some skills where you can support yourself." She then states that, "You have to go to college. There's very much about skill, you have to be college educated." And the final thing she said was, "Thinking that you're writing something to make money is a disaster. You're better chance is using you're purest voice." Which, I found, was very informative.
Deborah Gregory not only graduated from FIT, she also went to Empire State University. There, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. She has written for ESSENCE magazine, GRACE magazine, Entertainment Weekly, VIBE, and more. Ms.Gregory is currently working on an adult novel titled, "Leopard Live" which speaks on her personal life. It will be out soon. Thank you.
