BNY Employment Center
We had an amazing day today @teeninnovatorsbldg92. We were mostly introduced to the Employment Center in Building 92 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. We met the Internship Coordinator, Laquan Robinson, and he explained to us the main purpose of the Employment Center, which is to distribute jobs and overlook such jobs in the vast majority of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He also distributes internships to students for the many companies in the Navy Yard, like Construction Kids. We also met Regina Lindsey, who also played a crucial part in the employment of job seekers along with Laquan Robinson. We also met the CAO, the Chief Administrative Officer of the Navy Yard, Jocelynne Rainey, who is #2 on the ladder of this prestigious place. All three of these people taught us the importance of working hard to achieve greatness and to never give up.
Ice Stone
On November 1st, we visited Ice Stone the building was a wide expanse of raw materials and heavy machinery. It was astonishing to see the steps to make glass and cement into luxury items, not only did we get a run down of the process we got a feel for how much time and work is put into the making of the large slabs. The work they do there isn’t just heavy lifting but handling the product with care and putting effort into the masterpieces they create. The best part was knowing the entire company was designed to better the ecosystem by using recycled glass as well as eco-friendly machinery. It was a wonderful learning experience I’d like to see what new color patterns they come out with in the coming years.

During my time at HITN, I had a great time! Not only was the presentation amazing, but the information was amazing also. I learned a lot about the television world not only visually but verbally as well. I learned how important it is to be bilingual in the education world especially when you start from young. I also learned that all kids learn at a different level so everyone should be exposed to the same learning experiences. Overall, HITN was a great experience and I would like to visit there again.
Navy Yard Q&A
Today we were visited by the Navy Yard employees, Nicole Tarpi, Counsel, Elliot Matz, Chief Operating Officer, EVP, and Shani Leibowitz, Senior Vice President, Development and Planning. They were up to answer questions we had for them as well as give advice for our up and coming future. We believe the best advice they gave use was to follow are passion no matter what it is. It’s better to do something you love and not get paid as much as doing something that pays a lot of many but it’s something that you can’t stand. The major take away we got from this is have a sense of perseverance. No matter how hard it gets, we have to push through the obstacles. With that mind set we will all grow to do great things and we’re glad these amazing people taught us that today
