Tori Amos ft. BBC Concert Orchestra, "Cornflake Girl"
Tori Amos, "Swimming Pools (Drank)"
Two interesting outings from TA. The first comes from BBC 2's Radio Room and was released a few days ago. The orchestral accompaniment is a nice touch, but the highlight of the session is the use of backup singers to bolster and spread her voice. She does not have the 30-year-old's voice that sang the original, so the use of, not "backup," but "co-singers" is inspired.
The second was the leadoff tune from a 2023 Trevor Horn LP of guest singers doing covers, primarily of '80s tunes. It's a bit of a hash, with a few good covers amidst a bunch of okay-but-unnecessary versions. The highlight here is this number, Tori Amos' cover of a Kendrick Lamar tune, which is head and shoulders above the rest of the Horn album.
