Forever jealous of the Merlin cast. Imagine being in your 20s in the 2000s and your life consists of getting paid to do medieval larping, while surrounded by only attractive people.

are there even still Merlin fans out there
What I find rather interesting is that Merlin never once feared Arthur, and THIS convinced Arthur that Merlin was truly innocent.
Not when he could throw him in the stocks, or humiliate him, or have the power to do anything he wanted with Merlin because he was a commoner and Arthur was a prince. But this fact, that Merlin insults him, prods him, DARES him in each season right from the moment they meet just shows that Merlin is truly fearless, arrogant even, because he knew his power outweighed Arthur's tenfold.
Now from Arthur's perspective, it's truly bizarre how Merlin seems fearless, and he convinces himself that it is because Merlin thinks himself as truly innocent, and that there's nothing anyone could do that would make him otherwise. Arthur mistakes Merlin's powerplay as a self conviction of his own redeeming nature, and this very powerplay seems to save Merlin any time he is truly convicted of a crime, because Arthur is like "this guy actually has the gal to tease me 24/7, because that's the only crime he could possibly commit as an innocent little cinnamon roll" and bails him out!
Something else I would have liked to see more of throughout the series is Merlin just using his powers on instinct before he can stop it like when he saved Gaius from that fall.
It would’ve been cool to see Merlin struggling to contain all this power especially at the start of the series while he’s still learning to harness his magic:
Like maybe Arthur throws something at Merlin while half paying attention but Merlin’s magic stops it midflight and he has to quickly unfreeze and take the hit to avoid suspicion
Gwen asks Merlin to pass her the washing but it’s moving before he can even get his hands on it and Merlin has to scramble after it to grab the basket midair
Merlin’s carrying a meal up to the princes chambers and trips, his magic catching him and the tray of food and quickly righting them both, and Merlin glances around to see if anyone noticed
Gaius asks him to light a candle and suddenly every wick in the room is lit before he can even finish his sentence
It’s only after Gaius gives Merlin the spell book that he learns any kind of control, but even then, there would still be moments of panic or excitement that cause his magic to flare on instinct
Do I know you at all anymore?
How am I supposed to know what's true, when my whole life has been a lie? Is the bottom of this pitch dark lake the way up, or the golden sun of your eyes?
I like to imagine that at first, those around Arthur and Merlin are extremely suspicious of their dynamic. To the ones closest to Arthur, they worry that he’s too attached to his manservant. At the end of the day, Merlin is only close to Arthur because it’s his job! He could even be acting as his friend to manipulate the Prince! There’s no reason for him to— oh. The servant just drank another poison for Arthur. No one even made him this time he just chugged it, no questions asked.
Same goes for Merlin. Gaius and Gwen worry because Merlin is clearly obsessed with Arthur. A man who would never return his affections or loyalty, after all what’s a Prince to a common— seriously? Arthur just offered himself over to bandits in Merlin’s place, claiming something about “it’s my royal duty to protect the citizens of Camelot”. I take it back, there’s no power imbalance here, they’re both freaks.
This should make everyone feel better but oh it absolutely does not. They’ve created two monsters that would rather throw themselves on the blade before admitting they enjoy each other’s company. Morgana loves it.

Kilgharrah: You should marry Arthur. Merlin: I’ve known him a week. Kilgharrah: I know, it’s taken incredible restraint waiting this long.
Thoughts from my Merlin rewatch;
