On 14th March 1952, the first TV programme to be broadcast in Scotland showed the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society performing the Duke of Edinburgh Reel.
This day would be beginning of television as we now know it in Scotland. The programme was broadcast from the Kirk o’ Shotts transmitter, using the 405-line television system.
Full service began on the 17 August of the same year and remained black and white until colour broadcasting began in 1971 when then BBC Scotland’s studios were upgraded. The programme itself was celebrating the opening of the Kirk o’ Shotts station in Lanarkshire and was filmed in Studio 1 of Edinburgh’s Broadcasting House. The voices that narrated the evening’s events to the viewers were Mary Malcolm and Alastair MacIntyre. The programme must have been truly wondrous for those lucky enough to watch it.
The first pic shows crowds gather outside a shop window to watch the first broadcast, next, Mary Malcolm, Alastair Macintyre, James Stuart and Lord Tedder and last is the platform party at the first broadcast
Sam spoke on 6/18:2020 with the #The Nine @BBCScotland about his and Graham McTavish’s new series, “Men in Kilts”, filmed last summer. He described their various escapes hiking, kayaking, riding a motorbike, visiting chefs, tasting whisky, interviewing locals and learning about Scottish culture & history!

Working my way back through an awful lot of photos from my Outer Hebrides trip last week....seeing out the sunset with these beauties at Pobull Fhinn was a definite highlight of my time on North Uist. With distant Eaval dominating in the background - which I conquered the next morning - it’s a scene I’ll not forget. Thanks to all who followed along with my travels - it was a lot of fun to share! More photos and blog posts to follow.... . . . #scotspirit #yoyp2018 #scotlandisnow #visitscotland #lovetheouterhebrides #outerhebrides #northuist #standingstones #outlander #scotland #thisisscotland #igscotland #instascotland #outlanderstarz #natgeotravelpic #lonelyplanet #bbcscotland #omgb #visitbritain #scotlandlover (at Pobull Fhinn)

Another birthday and another actor from Shetland, Edinburgh born Mark Bonnar turns 51 today.
Bonnar is a very versatile actor, and will be more well known to people of different ages and who enjoy differing genres.Starting with gamers Mark Bonnar provides the voice and motion capture of Edward "Blackbeard" Thatch in the 2013 video game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and also Townsend in the 2016 game, Battlefield 1.
If it's drama you like he has played in some of the top shows over the last decade and a half, Rebus, Wire in the Blood, Taggart (of course) and Casualty, The Bill, Dr Who, Silent Witness and as I mentioned Shetland to name a few.In comedy Phoneshop, the one off Porridge and my fave comedy at which ended it's run in the past year, Catastrophe
There isn't much more about him I can find but that he married actress Lucy Gaskell, as seen in pic 3, on 28 December 2007 and their first child, Martha, was born in July 2011.
Bonnar has been keeping himself busy this past year, appearing in Summer of Rockets, Defending the Guilty and the excellent Gullt, which is on The BBC Scotland channel. He is also set to appear in the mini series , Quiz, which tells the story of Charles Ingram, who cheated his way to the top prize in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
