I have a revelation!!!! A thought! An observation, deduction thing!

So! I was watching Mycroft edits on TikTok as a Sherlock obsessed fanboy does and the intro of it was the “That takes me back ‘Don’t be smart Sherlock, I’m the smart one’.” “I am the smart one” scene.

And in that scene I was admiring Mycroft, and realize something!

After Sherlock says “I used to think I was an idea” and before Mycroft replies with the “Both of us thought you were an idiot” line. Mycroft blinks. And not just any blink people, he blinks RAPIDLY!! As in Perplexed, Sherlock-just-got asked-best-man quick. (They both blink quickly 5 times. If anyone was curious)

Mycroft Holmes is caught off guard that his little brother would think of himself as being an idiot! but he doesn’t correct him with some empathetic words of ‘no you’re not’ because that’s not how they do things. So instead, he agrees. He could of just said ‘both of us thought you were an idiot’ and left it at that, but subtly changes the subject the subject by mentioning other children and what they could possibly be thinking of, to which they both bonded by due to thinking friends were insignificant / issues with making them, or well Sherlock did at first, but now he has John and Sherlock most likely reflects on this which is why they suddenly do the hat deduction.

Okay. That’s it.

It was none other than his brother, Mycroft. "Why can I not just skip some grades? There's no benefit to keeping me stuck in a room for six hours a day learning things i've learned ages ago. Surely you can convince Mummy somehow, Socialize, make friends." Sherlock spat out the word as if it was something vile, and maybe it was. "That's the whole reason we were both enrolled in public school, to learn to be normal, yet it's impossible."

I have another thought!

The reason Mycroft shows up whenever something crazy happens (like Sherlock willingly going with a serial murderer, a gas explosion across the street, to just check up on him with the added reason of giving him a case) is obviously cause he’s concerned, and because he wants to see for himself that Sherlock has come to no harm, but also because Sherlock doesn’t answer phone calls. He prefers to text. So even if Mycroft did call, Sherlock probably would just text back he’s fine. Maybe that’s why they each prefer their own methods of communication. Sherlock can’t lie well, yet there’s anonymity in texts. You can hide your thoughts, your feelings in it. Mycroft on the other hand probably dislikes texting for this very reason, he’s a distrustful person

“You don’t trust your own secret service?” “Naturally not, they all spy on people for money.”

Not to mention, Mycroft grew up to adulthood without texting existing (well Sherlock too technically, but Sherlock probably had just graduated uni when texting on phones was becoming more common) so he’s probably just used to talking on the phone, plus words have power. Inflection, how slow or quickly you speak, your tone all of these are tools which can be used to manipulate people.

We see it in small ways, Sherlock’s aversion / lack of care to answer phones. In the pilot, we see a snippet of Greg having sent an email for Sherlock to call him. Or on the blog, Sherlock indicated he was busy, which might be part of why he ignores calls, other than his personal preference. There’s also the added exchange of:

“So you want me to watch out for your brother because he won’t accept your help.”

“If it’s not too much trouble.”

So he knows that if Sherlock was, god forbid hurt he wouldn’t go to Mycroft for help, that Sherlock would try to figure it on his own. Hell when Sherlock almost gets strangled in the blind banker, He doesn’t mention it, he— Mr. Correction, doesn’t correct John’s misassumption that he’s getting a cold and just continues on with the case.

A young Sherlock starting his website ‘The Science Of Deduction’ to try and make friends meet likeminded individuals to stimulate his mind. Of course, it didn’t do particularly well, and not long after, he was going in and out of Rehab centers so he any small following fell through, that’s why later, he completely revamps it, deleting and completely wiping free any of the earlier content and design, and turning it into the website that John saw when he first looked up Sherlock on the internet. The only thing that he kept of the original website was the url and name of it.

So! Mycroft headcanon thought thing—

Do you think Mycroft ever referred to Sherlock as his kid brother to others?

I just remembered that term existed. Although I think I’ve only really heard the term used in movies, obviously they had to of gotten it from somewhere so some people probably do use it.
